Kidadl provides inspiration to entertain and educate your children. We recognise that not all activities and ideas are appropriate and suitable for all children and families or in all circumstances. Our recommended activities are based on age but these are a guide. We recommend that these ideas are used as inspiration, that ideas are undertaken with appropriate adult supervision, and that each adult uses their own discretion and knowledge of their children to consider the safety and suitability.
Kidadl cannot accept liability for the execution of these ideas, and parental supervision is advised at all times, as safety is paramount. Anyone using the information provided by Kidadl does so at their own risk and we can not accept liability if things go wrong.
International Childfree Day is observed internationally every year.
International Childfree Day is celebrated by anyone who supports individuals who choose to remain child-free.
International Childfree Day was celebrated on August 1, 1972, for the first time.
International Childfree Day was pioneered by Ellen Pick and Shirley Radl, of the National Organization For Non-Parents, to honor couples confronting criticism, mockery, and ridicule for choosing to be childless.
International Childfree Day commenced in 1972 through the efforts of Shirley Radl and Ellen Pick, who worked for the National Organization For Non-Parents (N.O.N.). It started with an event arranged by the organization in 5th Avenue, New York, in the early '70s.
The organization was renamed the National Alliance For Optional Parenthood and upheld the idea of respect for those choosing to be childless. Every year, the organization selects a Childfree Person of the Year to take the tradition forward. The winner receives prizes and awards for their contribution to the cause.
People on this day back their child-free acquaintances, friends, and family and endorse them to follow a life of their choice. They also throw parties to celebrate and enjoy the day, and offer gifts and cards to child-free friends and families. And childfree couples enjoy the freedom associated with the day.
People post pictures and infographics to make those around them aware of the perks of being childfree and ways to support those who choose to be so.
There are events arranged by various organizations which people attend. This day is to celebrate life choices, be it a man or woman.
Do you also support those who choose to be childfree? You can observe the day by cheering in rallies and movements. Spread awareness posts on social media about the lives of childfree women and men. If you are childless, make the most of your freedom with a celebration.
You may strive to find out about and understand childfree experiences and help in their normalization.
A large number of women are now focusing on their careers and are therefore not inclined to have children. It is important to respect their choice as it is not necessary that every woman must have a baby and become a mother, and they certainly should not be pressured into having children at any point in their lives. In a relationship, if both partners do not want to start a family, it is entirely their personal decision. So, rather than interfering in their lives, accept their decision and give them their space.
International Childfree Day was started in the United States by the National Organisation for Non-Parents (N.O.N) later renamed National Alliance for Optional Parenthood.
International Childfree Day is observed on August 1 annually.
International Childfree Day intends to commemorate people who choose to be childfree and support couples who are ridiculed for their personal choice of living child-free lives.
People spread awareness about being childfree through social media and support couples who choose to not have kids. They also partake in events and rallies put on by organizations supporting the decision of men and women for living a child-free life. People also enjoy parties with those acquaintances who are without children.
