The day is celebrated all around the U.S. as National First Responders Day to honor the men and women putting their lives on the line, from firefighters to military personnel.
First responders are the country's heroes, with the most demanding job of taking the right action when disaster strikes. So, it must be the day that everyone in the world must celebrate in their honor.
The day was created a few years back, on October 28, 2019, when it was passed as a resolution by the United States Senate.
National First Responders Day was started as a resolution by the United States Senate to honor the public safety community.
The U.S. Senate passed an official bill to recognize National First Responders Day on October 28, 2019, as a day of resolution to recognize the firefighters, police officers, and all who were first on the scene of stressful situations. Here's how the day of the national declaration happened for all the heroes who answered our calls in an emergency.
First responders take up the most dangerous career in the U.S. by facing high risks every time they step out on the front lines. So, if you never thanked them, this is the best day to say thank you to all the police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, or any brave men or women you know.
Every year on this day, you can take up the resolution to donate to their department or community organizations they support, like the organizations that support the families who lost their loved ones to suicide.
Next time you see the police or anyone from the public services community who is not involved in an emergency call, take a moment to thank them for all they do for the community.
There are many ways to celebrate this day. Start with sending your thank you note and letter of gratitude to all the first responders in your life. Or you can also donate to an organization that aid first responders in catering to their needs, from financial assistance to mental health awareness.
You can offer them a treat alongside a thank you note with their favorite beverage or buy their next meal.
As a part of honor day, and if there is any voluntary service, sign up with no second thoughts because some responder organizations need a volunteer throughout the year.
The First Responders Day began mainly due to the advocacy of Andrew Collier.
First responders put others' lives ahead of their own. So, this day is for them to share their joy with teammates and take a moment to feel appreciated.
Another event related to the day is National First Responders Appreciation Day, observed on September 27, 2017.
After Andrew Collier initiated a movement to establish a day of respect for first responders, every citizen encouraged the celebration of First Responders.
