Organizations, activists, and the people of America who want to bring awareness to the realities of HIV in the Latino population observe this day.
2003 was the first time this day was observed.
National Latino AIDS Awareness Day was started by the Latino Commission on AIDS. Dennis DeLeon was the leader. The Hispanic Federation and different country groups also supported this day.
In 2003, more than 100 cities around the United States observed the National Latino Awareness Day. This day was started under the leadership of Dennis DeLeon by the Latino Commission on AIDS. The Hispanic Federation and local groups also joined and supported this campaign. The theme of that year was 'Prevention Saves Lives.'
Every year on October 15, campaigns are established by Non-profit organizations and community centers all over the USA. These campaigns conduct HIV testing, promote information and resources that help prevent HIV and provide health care services.
