World Bee Day was first observed on May 20, 2018, worldwide, to honor these garden pollinators.
The proposal to start World Bee Day on May 20, which is the birth anniversary of Anton Jansa, was raised in the United Nations General Assembly by Slovenia which was accepted in 2017.
Given that bees and other pollinators are responsible for one-third of the world's food and bees are becoming increasingly endangered and nearly unable to survive without human assistance and support, it seemed only appropriate that the general public be made aware.
There are no particular traditions for this day, but people like to visit a pollinator farm and purchase a diverse array of honey and hive products.
