You’ve sat beside Paddington Bear, giggled at Mr Bean and asked “What’s up, doc?” of Bugs Bunny. But guess who’s coming next.
The film characters of Leicester Square were an immediate hit with families. Installed a few weeks before lockdown, the likenesses of Mary Poppins, Laurel & Hardy, Wonder Woman and the difficult-to-spot Batman are a joy to track down. So good news: more are on the way soon.
Next up is the boy wizard himself, Harry Potter.
Sculptor Andrzej Szymczyk has created this statue, which shows Harry taking off on his broom for the first time -- a key scene in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
We’re told that a further five statues will be unveiled over the coming months, but not who they’ll depict. What do we reckon? A couple of Marvel superheroes to balance out Wonder Woman and Batman from DC? Darth Vader? Or how about a ‘life-size’ Indominus rex from Jurassic World? We can’t wait to find out.
In further Potter news, you can now buy the wizard’s favourite tipple, butterbeer, from King’s Cross station. The non-alcoholic beverage tastes something like cream soda and butterscotch. It’s on sale from the Harry Potter shop, next to Platform 9 ¾.
The Making of Harry Potter studio tour has also resumed in Watford. We’ve got tips, and tickets, to help you get the most from a visit.
