Fans of all things nautical, mark the date of 7 September. That’s when the National Maritime Museum reopens after a long lockdown.
The Greenwich attraction “tells the story of Britain and the sea through science, trade, conflict, work and leisure in the world’s largest maritime collection”.
Sadly, the brilliant All Hands Children Gallery and Ahoy! Children’s Gallery will remain closed in the short term, but will hopefully reopen soon.
This is still a treasure of a museum for families. And if you haven’t been for a while, it’s now much bigger than you may remember, with the 2018 opening of four new galleries. Right now, you can also see the Insight Investment Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2019 exhibition, which has been extended to 13 September.
The National Maritime Museum is part of a collection of venues that includes the Cutty Sark, Royal Observatory and Queen’s House, all of which have already reopened.
The museum remains free to visit, but in line with most other attractions, must be prebooked in advance. Visitors will be expected to wear a face mask, unless under 11 or exempt for a medical reason.
