The year is 2002 and the country are celebrating the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

People at Dudley Goring Comprehensive School are eagerly anticipating the arrival of a very important visitor, as Her Majesty the Queen will open the new science block. Everyone is excited, apart from Derek Jones, the school's Head of Science, who is also a staunch republican and unreconstructed socialist.

In an instance of madness, Derek gets up to use the personal facilities (a Portaloo) that has been installed specifically for the personal use of the Queen.

Although the planning was on point, his timing was not quite right and he is caught in the action by none other than the Queen herself.

The confusion and embarrassment is soon replaced by fear, as the duo realise that they have been locked in the Portaloo by terrorists, who have planted a bomb that will set off if someone tries to flee.

Derek and the Queen have to rely on one another to make it through the ordeal.

This new witty comedy is by John Goldsmith and stars Mary Roscoe (of 'Unrelated' and 'Ted Lasso' fame) and Charlie Condou (of 'Charlotte Gray', 'Coronation Street', and 'Nathan Barley' fame). The Charing Cross Theatre in London is ready to welcome you to this new irreverent comedy show.

About 'The Throne'

What is 'The Throne' about?

The Queen has been on the throne for 50 years and on her Golden Jubilee, Her Majesty is opening the new science block at Dudley Goring Comprehensive School. For this special and esteemed guest, all present are eagerly awaiting her arrival.

However, not everyone is so enthusiastic. Derek Jones is a staunch republican and unreconstructed socialist who also works as the school's Head of Science.

In a moment of madness and desperation, he decides to use the Queen's 'throne'. The 'throne' is not what you think it is, but is in fact, the personal facilities that have been installed in the school for Her Majesty's personal and exclusive use.

His timing is not quite right as unfortunately, the Queen catches Derek in the act inside the Portaloo.

Confusion and fear overcome embarrassment, as the duo realise that they are locked in the Portaloo. Terrorists have locked them in and a bomb is planted underneath the Portaloo.

Any movement and any effort to leave the facilities will set off the bomb. They are cut off from the outside world, so it is up to them to work together and rely on one another to make it through this tough situation.
