If your kids are budding history buffs, love everything gross and gory and are fans of the quirky Horrible Histories books, then they will love this new instalment of Barmy Britain live at the Apollo Theatre. In a history lesson like no other, you can meet the likes of King Henry I and VIII, Thomas Becket, William the Conqueror and even Queen Elizabeth herself in a retelling of Britain’s rollercoaster past with all the nastiest bits left in. Since the original series by Terry Deary in 1993, who published sequels all the way until 2013, Horrible Histories books have been teaching children in the most disgustingly honest way and the series has become a firm family favourite with kids all over the country. Now a global franchise with a smash-hit CBBC series, Horrible Histories has taken to the stage and become one of the most popular London family shows on the West End.

As part of Birmingham Stage Company’s expansive live tour series, the Horrible Histories theatre shows let you experience the gruesome dramas of England’s past up close - if you can stomach it! Horrible Histories: Barmy Britain Part 5 covers everything from Vikings and Romans to the ‘gorgeous Georgians’ and battles of World War Two, plus a peek into Buckingham Palace. What to know before you go

• Horrible Histories: Barmy Britain Part 5 is 70 minutes long with no interval.
• The show is recommended for children aged 5 and over. Babies under 18 months old can watch the show from an adult’s lap.
• Situated on the famous Shaftesbury Avenue, there are many places to eat near to the theatre including Bill’s, the Rainforest Cafe, Bubba Gump Shrimp, Shake Shack, Angus Steakhouse and Pret A Manger, as well as the many restaurants of Chinatown.
• There are also two bars on-site serving drinks and snacks - The Stalls Bar and the Grand Circle Bar.
• There are multiple toilets and disabled toilets located throughout the venue.
• The theatre offers access seating in Row Q; please contact them for assistance bookings.
• Booster cushions are available for children on a first-come, first-served basis.
• There is a cloakroom available on site, and the theatre is air conditioned.
   

Getting there

• The Apollo Theatre is located on Shaftesbury Avenue.
• There is a nearby car park at Q-Park - Chinatown, Newport Place, which is part of the Q-Park Theatreland Parking Scheme.
• Piccadilly Circus Tube station is a two-minute walk (Bakerloo and Piccadilly lines), Leicester Square Tube station (Piccadilly and Northern lines) is a seven-minute walk and Charing Cross station (Bakerloo and Northern lines and National Rail services) is a 12-minute walk.
• Bus routes 1, 14, 19, 22, 24, 29, 38, 55 and 176 all stop near to the theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue.
