Across 14 innovative galleries, you can explore the largest collection of British cars, vehicles and bicycles in the world, covering the most unique to the most luxurious from the last 200 years. The acclaimed Coventry car museum collection is made up of an eclectic range of motor vehicles, bicycles, motorbikes and commercial transport units as well as vintage memorabilia, photographs and video exhibits to immerse visitors into each period of transport history. Amongst the record-breaking collection, you can discover the two fastest cars in the whole world, the Thrust SSC and Thrust 2, as well as tons of historic information displays and hands-on exhibits. Kids will love strapping into the immersive 4D Land Speed Record Simulator, which lets visitors recreate the experience of driving the fastest car in the world across America's Black Rock Desert and walking through the interactive Blitz experience gallery.

There are also a whole host of family workshops, activities and temporary galleries taking place at Coventry Transport Museum offering adults and children hours of four-wheeled fun. The regular Mini Museum events let little ones embark on engineering trails throughout the museum, get crafting with new innovative materials, and access the best immersive play sessions and play boxes. Adults and kids alike will equally love the seasonal Christmas exhibits (ever wanted to take a ride on Santa's vintage sleigh?) and fascinating space, aircraft and mechanical exhibitions popping up at Coventry Transport Museum throughout the year.

What to know before you go

• The Coventry Transport Museum opening times are 10am to 5pm daily. You should arrive by 3pm at the latest to ensure your entry.
• Admission to the museum is free for children aged four and under, for Go CV cardholders (Coventry residents) and carers accompanying a visitor with access needs. Concessions, junior, family and group tickets are also available.
• All tickets to the museum are valid for a full year from the date of your purchase, and you can return using them as many times as you like within those 365 days.
• Please note that the 4D simulator is not included in your admission price.
• We recommend allowing at least two hours for your visit to enjoy the museum in full.
• The Coventry motor museum aims to be fully accessible for its visitors with lift access to all floors. The shop and café are both accessible for wheelchair users and those carrying buggies. Some wheelchairs are also available to borrow free of charge.
• There are toilets, accessible toilets and baby changing facilities on the ground floor.
• Assistance dogs are welcome in the Coventry Transport Museum.
• All label information in the exhibits is in large print, visual aids are available to borrow from reception, there are subtitles for the main video displays, and Makaton symbols are positioned at each new exhibition.
• The Workdays and Holidays gallery is also a dedicated multi-sensory exhibit.
• Breastfeeding is welcome in all areas of the museum, or a parent room is available. The café staff are happy to heat baby bottles for you and Esquires has a great child-friendly menu.
• Esquires Coffee is the museum's great on-site café in Coventry city, which offers a huge range of brunch, lunch, snack and drink options using local produce, Fairtrade ingredients and organic coffee. They also have lots of gluten-free and vegan options on offer.
• For eating and drinking nearby, you can also find plenty of family-friendly venues such as Nando's, Jinseon Korean BBQ Restaurant, Sprinkles Gelato, Café Italia, KFC and SHIN Japanese Bar & Kitchen.

Getting there:

• The Coventry Transport Museum is located in Coventry city centre, within the West Midlands county.
• If you are travelling via car, you can follow signs to Coventry city centre via the M1, M6, M40 or M42.
• There is no car park on site, but parking can be found at the nearby NCP Belgrade Plaza car park.
• Coventry Rail Station is a 15-minute walk to the museum and has good connections to London Euston via the London Northwestern Railway, as well as Birmingham, Northampton, Nuneaton and Leamington Spa.
• Most city centre buses stop at Trinity Street or the Pool Meadow bus station, both of which are just a two-minute walk to the venue. Coventry also has a Park & Ride system in place from the War Memorial Park on Kenilworth Road which services the museum via the Corporation Street and Burges junction.
• If you wish to travel via boat, the Coventry Canal Basin is just a five-minute walk to the venue via the footbridge.
• Coventry Transport Museum is also on the National Cycle Network, and bike racks are available in front of the venue.
