Kentish Town City Farm is a firm family favourite with parents and children alike. Established in 1972, and the UK’s first-ever city farm, Kentish Town Farm was created as a charity and community project, with local groups and volunteers converting an out of use timber yard into the flourishing farm that stands today. Other city farms now include Vauxhall City Farm and Spitalfields City Farm, both great options for families too.
Set in North London, and lying in between two railway lines, this unique patch of countryside in the middle of the city will make for an enthralling experience for kids who love animals, while parents can relax in the great outdoors. Kentish Town Farm provides an excellent opportunity for animal-loving kids to play with their favourite farm animals - whether your child wants to greet the goats, play with the pigs or see the ducks. Geese, horses, donkeys, cows, sheep and chickens also live at the farm, and children will adore visiting them.
The 4.5-acre farm also includes a beautiful garden, where vegetables such as sweet sugar snaps and pumpkins are grown, and features free-drop in sessions three days a week for your kids to develop some green fingers! Meanwhile, a trip to the farm’s wildlife pond will fascinate any child who loves learning about nature.
In addition, this wonderful community farm provides summer play schemes and horse riding lessons for children. Well priced pony and donkey riding sessions are available on weekends, perfect for any little budding equestrian. These take place at the farm’s very own riding arena, complete with views of the London skyline. Older children aged 8-15 years old can also participate in interactive summer play schemes. These two-day programmes run each summer, and include activities like feeding and putting animals to bed, in addition to arts and crafts, making this an ideal option for local children who adore animals.
Local children aged 8-15 also have the chance to join the farm’s prestigious Pony Club to hone their riding and horse care skills - great fun for any young horse enthusiast. The farm’s horse riding programme has been approved by the British Horse Riding Society and the Riding for the Disabled Association and is highly sought after. The farm also offers riding therapy to children with learning difficulties and physical disabilities and is fully accessible.
Kentish Town City Farm also runs projects and special events. In the past these have included weekend art classes for kids and apple bobbing at Halloween, making the farm an exciting and engaging place to visit!
