Splashdown Quaywest in Paignton, Devon, is a Splashdown waterpark, along with Splashdown Poole. It’s the UK’s biggest outdoor waterpark. If you love Sandcastle Waterpark in Blackpool and are looking for your next thrill, put this on your list! With stunning views of the English Riviera, slide down eight heart-stopping flume rides as you see the sands of Goodrington.
If you’re looking for extremes, Splashdown Quaywest has three blood-pumping slides for you to go down. In Devil’s Drop, plunge down a 65ft near-vertical drop and into a black hole run on the highest, fastest flume in the UK. The Screamer is great for speed, as you move like a bullet through a 60-degree steep arc. Wild Kamikaze will take you down three steep drops, and make your pulse go right up as you travel through 60 metres of slides.
If you’re looking for something less intense but still tons of fun, there are five rides suitable for over-7s. Raging Rapids allows you to ride with friends on a classic tyre ride through slides and splash tubs. Surf Lagoon, also a tyre ride, is a classic snaking slide to ride around in. Sidewinder will still give you some heart-thumping twists and turns as you go through open and closed and tunnels on your mat. Corkscrew will spiral you through 98m of 360-degree turns, so be prepared to get a little dizzy - hold tight to your mat! Wet and Wild is great if you’ve never been on a water slide before, with its 98 metres of slight twists and turns and a comfy mat to sit on.
Want something for the youngest members of the family? Try Submarine Adventure, as two small slides and water jets take you on a fun journey through the water. If they’d rather be splashing about, have a sit in Blennies Tiddler Pool; make sure to try the mini slide into the pool. Even your littlest kids can have fun at Splashdown!
If you decide to take a break after all the water slides, there’s still lots to do. Go outside and take a few laps of the swimming area, a 20m swimming pool that's 1.2m deep. Enjoy your own inflatables or just float around. If you feel like sunbathing afterwards, there are terraces around the pool. Gold Coast Arcade has all the classic arcade games from your childhood, so will be a great way to end the day after you’ve dried off. The Sunrise Shop has everything you need if you’ve forgotten anything! From sun cream to inflatables for the pool, they can save the day.
Hungry after all the swimming? There are three catering places to enjoy. The View Restaurant & Beach Bar, overlooking the long, sandy stretch of Goodrington Sands, has indoor and outdoor seating for your favourite sit-down meals, from pizza to burgers. The Donut Hut & Shakedown has a great stock of doughnuts and ice cream, as well as incredible milkshakes. Marshfield Farm Ice Cream Hut has delicious ice cream from farms of the West Country, with nine award-winning flavours, as well as plenty of other sweet treats.
Whatever you’re looking for from waterparks, Splashdown Quaywest has everything you need for a brilliant family day out.
