Laquintasaurus species are a group of herbivore dinosaurs belonging to the Ornithischi clade. They existed during the Triassic period. Their fossil bones reveal to us that these creatures became Extinct about 201 million years ago. These remains were excavated from the La Quinta Formation of Venezuela.

These dinosaurs were small in size with a long tail. Several researchers claimed that they led a herbivorous diet. Dr. Paul Barrett of the Natural History Museum in London was the first person to study and publish the details about this dinosaur species.

Laquintasaura Interesting Facts

How do you pronounce 'Laquintasaura'?

Laquintasaura is pronounced as 'Lah-kwin-tah-sor-rah'.

What type of dinosaur was a Laquintasaura?

This dinosaur was grouped under the Ornithischia clade.

These early species of ornithischian dinosaurs existed during the Triassic period.

When did the Laquintasaura become Extinct?

It is unknown when exactly this species of South America became Extinct.

Where did Laquintasaura live?

The fossils of these bird-hipped dinosaurs were excavated from the La Quinta Formation of Venezuela in South America. This is also where they got their name from.

The researchers of the Natural History Museum in London described this dinosaur species as a small dog-size animal that moved on its two hind legs. It was the first dinosaur discovered in Venezuela.

What was the Laquintasaura's habitat?

These bird-hipped dinosaurs lived in dense vegetation areas and grasslands where they foraged on plants and plant parts.

Who did the Laquintasaura live with?

These dinosaur species may have lived in small groups and foraged together while keeping an eye on each other's backs.

How long did a Laquintasaura live?

Due to a lack of fossil bones, paleontologists were unable to determine the exact life span of this early species.

How did they reproduce?

Just like other sauropods, these dinosaur species reproduced by laying eggs. These eggs were hatched in small dug-outs. They underwent sexual reproduction. Although not much information is available about the parental care that juveniles received, we do know that these bird-hipped dinosaurs grew at a rapid rate after hatching out.

The Laquintasaura dinosaurs of early history were estimated to be about 3 ft (1 m) in length and were fairly short-built with just the size of a small dog. However, they were bigger than the Parvicursor species, which were only about 1 ft (39 cm).

How fast could a Laquintasaura move?

Although we do not know about the exact speed of these dinosaurs due to a lack of evidence from the fossils, we can assume that these dinosaurs were fairly fast runners due to their small body size and bipedal feet.

How much did a Laquintasaura weigh?

According to the fossils, Dr Paul Barrett of the Natural History Museum described these dinosaurs to have an average body weight of 5.5 lb (2.5 kg).

What were the male and female names of the species?

The scientific communities have not given any specific names to the male and female dinosaurs.

What would you call a baby Laquintasaura?

A hatchling or a juvenile would be perfect names for the baby Laquintasaurus.

How aggressive were they?

As they were plant-eaters, we can assume that they weren't aggressive in nature. It is unknown if they were greedy. The strength of their teeth is also not known as of now.
