Establishment Of Julian Calendar
Julius Caesar first introduced a calendar, but it had some missed intercalations. This calendar had 455 days in a year.
45 BCEIntroduction Of Leap Day
To remove the ambiguities, Julius Caesar introduced a new calendar that had, on average, 365.25 days of length (solar year) and 12 months every year. This led to three consecutive years having 365 days and a fourth year having 366 days. Thus providing us with an extra day every four years.
46 BCEIntroduction Of Gregorian Calendar
In this year, Pope Gregory XIII introduced the Gregorian calendar, which also followed the year starting from January 1 every year. We have followed this calendar since then.
1582Modern Sense Of Leap Year
For the first time in the modern sense, a leap year was started in the United Kingdom in 1752.

The Roman King Numa, wanted the number of days to be odd, which could only happen if one of the months had lesser days. He selected this month for Romans to be unlucky and to perform traditions and rituals on the dead.
