The agouti resembles a rat but is larger in body size and is covered in thin hair all over its body, except for the tail, with oil over it to protect its body from rain or water.

This animal is found in colors such as light brown, dark brown, or reddish-brown. These animals mainly eat nuts and are one of the few species that can crack them using only their teeth and claws.

Agoutis are fast runners and hence don't easily get caught by predators. It is known to have powerful and sharp teeth.
