There are a total of six species of greenfinches. Namely the European greenfinch (scientific name Chloris chloris), black-headed greenfinch (Chloris ambigua), gray capped greenfinch also known as oriental greenfinch (Chloris sinica), Bonin greenfinch (scientific name Chloris kittlitzi), Vietnamese greenfinch (Chloris monguilloti), and yellow-breasted greenfinch also known as (Chloris spinoides).

They are seen in countries like the UK, Europe, Asia, Africa, and other parts of the world.

Greenfinches are sociable birds and love residing in the woods and hedges. Predators include snakes, larger birds, and foxes. They are not so rare and are seen widely. Finches feed on a herbivorous diet primarily and consume seeds and insects occasionally.

This rarely affects humans however, it's best to wear protective gear while handling them to avoid any transmission. This disease cannot survive long once it's away from its host. The greenfinch population declined in the year 1970-1980 due to Trichomonosis disease and increased subsequently during 1990.
