Dancing has been one of the most ancient forms of recreational activities, allowing people to break into song and enjoy themselves.

The field of dancing has grown leaps and bounds in the last decade. A variety of dance shows encourage talented dancers to challenge their limits.

While dancing was also at one time thought of as something not pursued by people belonging to good families, it has managed to break such stereotypes and regain importance in the last two decades. Today, dancing is being taken to new heights.

Dance competitions allow young children and adults alike to explore their talent and polish it further, to break traditional norms and create new movements, and to gain a platform for the recognition of their talent and the growing number of professional options, making dancing a viable career in their future.

Award shows like 'The Dance Awards', or 'Dance Moms' also recognize their talents in the art and motivate more people to pursue and join the art of dance, thereby allowing the field to expand as well.

As such, those that have made revolutionary changes to the field have become famous kid dancers with their hip-hop skills.

What is the best age to start dancing?

While there are different opinions about what age is the best to start dancing, no specific answer yet exists. On the basis of several surveys and experiences, it is suggested that the best age to start learning or training for dance properly is between the age of three to seven years.

Some believe that seven to nine years is the ideal age for children to start learning dance professionally, since before that age they are still learning basic coordination and gesture movements. Being a bit older makes them mature enough to grasp dance movements; another account suggests that for a more competitive purpose, the earlier the training starts, the better.

As such the age of three is suggested because it is by this time that children become more independent, confident, and capable of taking instructions from people other than their parents and family. This allows them to learn movements and grasp dance moves easier. Their bodies are more flexible at this age as well.

Is dancing an Olympic sport?

While it has been suggested that break dancing be added to the Olympics as a sport, it has not officially been added to Olympics as yet. In 2015, it was suggested among other new sports such as surfing and skateboarding to be added for the 2020 and 2024 Olympic competitions.

The inclusion of dancing as a sport was met with considerable criticism, which has led to it not being added to the Olympics. The primary criticism is the fact that while it includes some athletic merit, it also focuses a lot on style, and not just techniques, which would make scoring difficult and arbitrary.

Judges in the Olympics need to score every performance in every sport, but when it comes to dancing, there are more factors at play than just technical proficiency.
