The creature Bogle is a creature much like a Bogeyman or Goblin, and is someone who instills fear.

The creature Bogle is also known by other names like Bogill or Boggart. The local people of certain regions believed that this folklore ghost does not harm but simply exists.

Although nobody ever saw this creature, there are many live examples of people witnessing something similar to the possible mischief of Bogles. Many years ago, there were once two neighbors who felt disturbances that may be because of Boggles.

Having witnessed a bunch of garbage flung against his window, one neighbor fired a shot in the direction from which the things were being flung. The invisible attackers, in turn, answered with cackling laughter and doubled their efforts to terrorize the families.

A similar situation happened with the other neighbor, which include the same series of events.

As this situation happened years ago, the victims straight away blamed the Boggles and continue to say that either this mischief is made by them or some other new sort of spirits. This is a very good insight into the mischiefs of a Bogle.

What is a Boggle creature?

Another northern English folkloric creature known as Boggart is somewhat similar to the Bogle as they are known to be cousins. It is said that these northern English creatures, Boggarts are a household spirit and malevolent geniuses.

While Bogles are primitive creatures who just create bigger shadows in night light and an uneasy feeling, rather than targeting specific fears like Boggarts do, they are more than capable of consuming humans into the shadows in a manner reminiscent to certain of Lethifolds' feeding behavior, prompting some to draw a possible relationship.

What does the name 'Bogle' mean?

The Bogle was first mentioned in Scottish literature in 1500, including the Borders' Skellycoats, Barguests, and Brags, as well as, in the Northumbrian Hedley Kow, a fairy tale about a shape-shifting elf specific to Hedley on the Hill, Northumbria. Simply described, Bogles are hobgoblins who are malicious trickster spirits native to the areas around Scottish Borders.

They are similar to the northern English Boggart and southern Puck.

In Norwegian, the name 'Bogle' comes from 'bugge', which means 'important man', whereas, in Irish, it comes from 'bagairt', which simply means a type of threat to people.

That is the reason they are found to have different stories in every other dialect and site, and Bogles appeared to be creatures of fear and the night who sometimes use their powers to harm households, thus, harming humans, especially children.

However, this is just another story that parents read to scare their children.

Rather than believing Bogles as a creature that is of humanity, people believe that these creatures love to find trouble and even use their main powers in mischief for terrifying humans at night.

The word 'Bogle' is derived from different dialects, which apparently has a different meaning in every other source. The word 'Bogle' is indeed found in the Scrabble dictionary and means a 'thing' or someone who creates fear in a human's body as well as their state of mind. That is why this Scottish creature is named as such.
