1910 was a year that has significant importance in the history of the modern world.

A number of iconic events changed the way of life for many people. Be it in terms of changes in pop culture or that of inventions or governance, 1910 will always be a highlighting year in the decade of the '10s.

A wide number of things were cool in 1910, particularly in the genre of pop culture. Apart from the usual genres of music that were prevalent in that era, which were ragtime and blues, a new genre of music slowly started to evolve and was hugely successful in taking the whole world by storm.

Around 20 houses were completely destroyed, while 40 people lost their lives. Electricity was common in urban areas, while wire setups were ongoing in suburban areas. However, there was negligible electricity in rural areas of the United States.

Owing to the advancements in science, technology, and medicine, the health of humans has greatly increased. And this, in turn, has led to an increase in the life expectancy of humans around the world.

Currently, the average life expectancy in the United States of America is 78.99 years, with some states like New Jersey having an expectancy of 80.5 years. However, things were not the same about a century ago, in 1910.

Then, the average lifespan of males was 48.4 years, while that of females was 51.8 years. This is a big proof that showcases the advancement in medical sciences.

The Fight of the Century took place on July 4, 1910, when the then-current black boxer knocked out a former all-white boxer. The Johnson–Jeffries Fight will go down in the history of the sport of boxing for its unique nature.

In this fight, the then champion, black American Jack Johnson, knocked out former champion James J. Jeffries. The knockout happened in the 15th round of the match.

Cars were rare in the early part of the 20th century. Only the rich could afford cars, and it has been estimated that during the decade of the '10s, from 1910-1920, there were an estimated 8,000 cars in the United States of America.

With a lower number of cars, the speed limit was also lower in most cities in the USA. It is estimated that the normal speed limit was around 12 mph (19 kph).

Such a rare incident happened on March 8, 1910, when Raymonde de Laroche was given the official license to fly an airplane. She thus became the first woman to own a license to fly aircraft in the history of mankind.

The western United States of America burned under the Great Fire of 1910, also known as 'The Big Blowup'. It is estimated that the size of this gigantic fire was almost that of the state of Connecticut. In Manchester, England, Europe, a huge fire at the Wellington Coal Mine was responsible for the deaths of around 137 people. During this time, Herbert Henry Asquith was Prime Minister of Britain.

One of the most important and noteworthy historical events of the year 1910 was the Mexican Revolution. This long revolution lasted for 10 years and ended in 1920.

Though this was a major revolution for the Mexicans, it was essentially not a unified revolution. Nevertheless, the revolution was successful as it was able to topple the reign of the Federal army, which was thus replaced by the Revolutionary army.

In 1910, the Panama Canal was under construction. This major waterway was a connecting link between North and South America.

Interestingly, it was France that started this project in 1881. However, due to a lack of investors, the United States took over from France. The principal engineer working on this project was George Washington Goethals, who taught military and civil engineering at West Point.

On February 8, 1910, the Boy Scouts of America was founded by William Dickson Boyce, a well-known businessman of the time. After the Boy Scouts, he also went on to establish the Lone Scouts of America. Ultimately, the two merged.

From 1910-1921, the Supreme Court of the US was known as the 'White Court'. This was a reference to the Chief Justice of the time, Edward Douglass White.

The famous Pennsylvania Station in New York City was opened to the public in 1910. However, this landmark of New York City was demolished in 1963.

He observed that the gas inside the sealed jar would glow and emit a particular color when the voltage was passed through it. This gave rise to the discovery of the neon effect.
