History And Timeline

Before knowing the history of the day, we should learn the history of the honorary citizen of the US, Winston Churchill. Churchill was half-American, born into a wealthy family in Oxfordshire, UK.

He received his graduation from the Royal Military Academy in 1894 and joined the Royal Cavalry in 1895, following which he traveled to many countries as a soldier and a journalist.

By the age of 26, he received four campaign medals, including the Spanish Order of Military Merit, wrote books, became the best war correspondent and lecturer, and was elected to British Parliament.

He served as the Prime Minister of Britain twice in his life.

With his knowledge of politics and war, he led Britain to victory during World War II. National Winston Churchill Day honors the great man receiving his honorary citizenship from the US.

Winston Churchill was born into an aristocratic family on November 30, 1874. His father was a descendant of the first Duke of Malborough and his mother belonged to a wealthy business family in the US. In his early days, he was poor at academics and his behavior at school was not good.

He served in politics from 1900 to 1940 in several roles. He became the Prime Minister of Britain in 1940. He served as a great political leader from 1940 to 1945 during WWII. After resigning in 1945, he later won the election and became Prime Minister for the second time in 1951.

As the Germans began their offensive, he gave his first speech with the famous sentence, 'I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat.' This speech was said to be electrifying and it was one of the many powerful speeches he gave to his fellow citizens.

Nobel Prize And Knighthood

He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953 for his splendid descriptions of the First and Second World Wars and for his inspiring speeches. In the same year, he also received his knighthood for his outstanding contributions to his country and was then known as Sir Winston Churchill.

Death Of Churchill

Churchill died on January 24, 1965, at the age of 90, two weeks after suffering a stroke. He received a state funeral on January 30, the first for a non-royal.
