University Of Georgia Fun Facts

The University of Georgia was the first state university to be founded. The undergraduate as well as graduate school always had a good hold on academic affairs and ranked fairly among the other public universities of the United States of America.

The first woman to be awarded a Master of Arts degree at the University of Georgia was Mary Lyndon, in the year 1914.

The fact that the university was founded in 1785 and it took more than a century for the first woman to get a degree from the institution tells us a lot about the Georgia legislature and the rigidity of the people there in terms of women's rights.

The first woman to be awarded an undergraduate degree was Mary Creswell, who graduated in the year 1919.

To mark the culture that these women started, there are two dormitories named after them on the UGA campus.

The dormitories are named Creswell Hall and Mary Lyndon Hall. However, it must also be noted that before the official admission of women in this public institution, they would still get a graduate degree through a credit-based system during the summer sessions.

Racial integration started in the university in 1961. The two UGA students, Hamilton E. Holmes and Charlayne Hunter started a legacy of racial tolerance and inclusivity. This positive change is celebrated as the university renamed a prominent campus building as the Hunter-Holmes Academic building.

The university consists of many prominent buildings and schools such as the Paul D. Coverdell Center for Biomedical and Health Sciences, Winnie Davis Hall, and the Richard B. Russell Jr. Special Collections Libraries Building. The most prominent structure is the arch which is featured on all the logos of the college.

University Of Georgia Interesting Facts

The Franklin College of Arts and Sciences was the first to be set up, in the year 1801. This university also houses the University of Georgia Medical partnership.

The College of Veterinary Medicine, Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, and colleges of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences were set up in the years 1946, 1915, 1906, and 1859 respectively.

UGA alumni continue to form a great part of the university culture and all incoming students are instantly taught the Georgia way of living. The Sanford Stadium is a seat of constant entertainment and also forms a large part of student affairs.

At the present day, the administration building at UGA houses an anti-bullying station where students can bring their complaints. Graduate students of the state often ran into such troubles in the past.

Several women and people of color were troubled with bullying before the anti-bullying laws were passed by the state legislature.

Today, if anyone seeks higher education at UGA or any other institutions of the state and is bothered by any form of bullying, they are helped by the law. There are many laws put into place which tackle bullying at school as well as cyberbullying.

University Of Georgia Bulldogs Facts

The football team of the University of Georgia, known as the Georgia Bulldogs, has won many championships.

The students of the school are deeply passionate about the game and often flood the Sanford stadium whenever a game is scheduled. The faculty members, as well as the students, are well aware of the rivalry between Georgia Bulldogs and Georgia Tech.

The rivalry is so strong that every time the Georgia Bulldogs win a game against Georgia Tech, the chapel bell rings throughout the night.
