There are many calendars that are followed around the world. The most common in use is the Gregorian calendar, which has 12 months.

Each month has 30 or 31 days, except the month of February, which has 28 days, though, in a leap year, it has 29 days. Before that, the Roman calendar was used widely across the world and had only 10 months.

July is the seventh month of the year and was named in honor of Julius Caesar. It is one of the hottest months in America and in most parts of the Southern Hemisphere.

July was originally called Quintilis. The word ‘quintilis’ meant ‘the fifth month’ in Latin, as July was originally the fifth month. I was named by Julius Caesar when he was making the calendar, as it was his birth month.

Earlier calendars did not have 30-31 days. After the death of Julius Caesar, his nephew Augustus Caesar, came to the throne. Augustus Caesar also followed his uncle's footsteps and renamed his birth month which was Sextilis to Augustus.

Hence it came to be known as August. The Gregorian Calendar is also known as the Julian calendar, as there were many reforms made by him, by adding two additional months and changing the name of the months.

Before the current calendar system, the Roman Calendar system was followed. There were no months of January and February. The year started with March as its first month, so going by the count, September became the seventh month of the year.
