Sophie was a popular member of the White Rose, a small German student group that aims to awaken the resistance movement in Nazi Germany.

Sophie was killed along with her older brother, Hans Scholl, and another group member, Christoph Probst. She was brutally beheaded by guillotine in February 1943 during the Nazi regime in world war II.

This garnered a lot of attention worldwide but was hardly mentioned in any media reports within Germany.

The famous last words of Sophie Magdalena Scholl were: "Such a fine, sunny day, and I have to go... What does my death matter, if through us, thousands of people are awakened and stirred to action?" Sophie was arrested while distributing leaflets at a college and was jailed along with another cellmate Else Gebel before being executed.

Sophie Scholl's father, Robert Scholl was also sent to prison for his criticism as a member of the resistance group.
