The body is gelatinous while the coloring of this small cephalopod ranges from velvety black to red. This inhabitant of the tropical and subtropical deep seas feeds mostly on detritus comprising the remnants of isopods, copepods, amphipods, ostracods, and zooplanktons like medusae jellies, larvaceans, and salps.
