Captain America is a fictional character who was featured as a superhero in the early comics of the Marvel Comics Publication of America.

Captain America was a creation by two cartoonists Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. Captain America’s first appearance was in March 1941 in the Captain America Comics #1 under the production of the Timely Comics which later became the Marvel Comics.

The superhero was portrayed as a soldier who was strong and patriotic. Captain America fought against the axis powers in World War II. During the period of wartime,  Captain America became the most loved and popular character of the Timely Comics.

But when the war was over, Marvel superheroes lost their fame, and Captain America became less popular. In 1950, the publication of the Captain America comic book ceased.

The publication was revived for a short period of time in 1953. Later on, in 1964, Captain America received a full-fledged revival by Marvel Comics. Since then, the character has remained popular among kids as well as adults.

The costume of Captain America is quite classy. He wears a bodysuit that has been designed in such a way that the flag of the United States of America is printed on it.

His weapon is a shield that is said to be almost indestructible. He throws the shield in a projectile manner.

According to the comics, the human form of Captain America is Steve Rogers who is a thin, young artist. Captain America is said to be Steve's alter ego.

Steve was enhanced beyond human perfection by the 'super-soldier serum' experiment that was performed on him after he had joined the military in order to help the government of the United States and to serve his nation in World War II. This is how Captain America came into being.

In the 21st century, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was created that was centered upon the idea of superheroes. Captain America became the first superhero to join the team of Avengers.

Later, other superheroes were added to the team such as Iron Man, Spiderman, Hulk, and more. Therefore, Captain America is called the first avenger, which is also the name of the first movie featuring the character, Captain America: The First Avenger. The movie was released in 2011 and it was based on the character Captain America from Marvel Comics.

Three years later, a sequel of the same movie was launched in 2014. The sequel was named Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It was directed by Anthony and Joseph Russo. Since then, a number of Avengers movies have been released featuring Captain America and the other Avengers.

A replica of the shield of Captain America can be seen in Tony Stark’s workshop in the movie Iron man. The movie was released in 2008 and features Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark (Iron Man).

Later on, in the film Iron Man 2, which was released in 2010, an incomplete and unfinished replica of Captain America’s shield was found inside a box by the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson.

Captain America History

The idea of Captain America first came into the mind of the cartoonist Joe Simon in 1940. At that time, he drew a rough sketch of the character with this costume. Later in an interview, Joe Simon disclosed that he named the character in his cover art as 'Super American'.

In Joe Simon’s autobiography, he recalls that the publisher of the Timely Comics, Martin Goodman, gave him a green signal for his cartoon. He directed him to begin working on a solo Captain America comic book series.

Simon also said that he consciously created Captain America as a politically sensitive character. Joe Simon and his fellow cartoonist Kirby were quite repulsive against the steps taken by Nazi Germany which caused the involvement of the United States in World War II. They morally believed that war was inevitable.

With all that rage, they created Steve Rogers. Steve’s experience in winning battles as well as his military training made him an extraordinary field commander and a perfect tactician and with his teammates, frequently deferring to his orders in battle.

Not only the Avengers but also the Fantastic Four as well as the X-Men collectively chose Steve Rogers as their leader during the time of the Secret Wars.

Captain America Quotes

'I’m with you till the end of the line' is the most heart-touching quote by Captain America said in the movie 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'. The super soldier said this to his friend Bucky Barnes, who was one of the most important people in his life.

Bucky Barnes was brainwashed and he killed the parents of Tony Stark. In the movie, Avengers: Age of Ultron, when Tony Starks was swearing because of his frustration, Steve said 'Language!'. This displays his humble nature and heightened morality. Even in tough times, he was always morally collected and sensible.

'I’m just a kid from Brooklyn', is another famous quote by Steve Rogers in the movie Captain America: The First Avenger. This is a strong statement that signifies his simplicity.

Another strong and popular Captain America quote from the movie Avengers - Infinity War - is, 'I’m not looking for forgiveness, and I’m way past asking permission. Earth just lost her best defender, so we’re here to fight. And if you want to stand in our way, we’ll fight you too'.

Last but not the least, in the movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Rogers smartly says 'On your left' to Sam Wilson whenever he passes him. However, Steve is a generous soul and a nice-hearted human being, he is also quite agile and witty. Steve never fails to have some fun.

Stan Lee won an art award for Captain America comics writing.
