The corn snake is small, with its average length being somewhere between 4-5 ft (121-152 cm). They are a species of the rat snake, and since they lack functional venom, they subdue small prey by constricting it using its body.

The Corn snake is found only in North America, mainly in the southeastern and the central parts of the United States.

They have very vibrant colors, especially resembling the venomous copperhead snake, and that is why they are usually killed as a result of confusing it with the copperhead snake. They are named Corn snake due to their distinctive corn-like shapes on their whole body, with them being mostly red with the corn marks being black or yellow.

They generally prey on mice and rats, and so they are quite beneficial to humans, as they control the population of the rodents.
