The tamarin monkeys, unlike the other monkey species, are of squirrel size. Their appearance varies a lot.


It can be black with a mix of brown, white, and black. They have facial hairs like moustaches. Their size varies from 5.1-11.8 in (13-30 cm) and their tail is around 9.8-17.3 in ( 24.8-44 cm).

They weigh around 7.8-31 Oz (221.1-878.8 g). Their lower canine teeth are longer than the incisors. Their average lifespan in captivity is around 18 years.

They inhabit tropical rainforests. They are active during daytime and mostly live on trees and branches which makes them diurnal and arboreal.

They live in groups of almost 40 of them together, and mainly consist of one and or families. However, the smaller groups consist of three to nine members. Unlike other monkeys, tamarins are omnivores and feed on plants, eggs, small vertebrates, spiders and insects.
