Deadpool is a fictional American antihero of the Marvel comic universe.
Created by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld, Deadpool made his first appearance in the Marvel comic book world in 'The New Mutants #98', first published in 1991. Deadpool was initially created as a super villain, appearing in 'The New Mutant' series, and the 'X-Force' comic series but he later evolved into his present more acclaimed antihero persona.
He made his first silver screen appearance in the 2009 film 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' starring the Canadian-American actor, Ryan Reynolds, who eventually became the face of this lovable antihero persona in all the 'Deadpool' movies as well as the 'X-Men' movie series.
Deadpool, who also goes by the name Wade Winston Wilson, is a disfigured mercenary fighting cancer, possessing the mutant trait of superhuman ability of regeneration and physical prowess.
What sets him apart from the other superheroes of the comic universe is his blatant and humorous acceptance of his existence as a comic character.
The 2016 'Deadpool' film, produced by 20th Century Fox Studios, follows Wade, a.k.a Merc with a Motor Mouth, in his quest to hunt down and destroy the evil scientist, Ajax whose torturous rogue experiment leaves him with a scarred appearance and accelerated healing powers and a twisted sense of humor.
He is joined in his quest by the mutant allies Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
Reynolds' portrayal truly breathed life into the comic character, and is what made it the iconic character it is today.
