Born in 570 B.C, Pythagoras of Samos was an ancient Ionian Greek philosopher. Known as a famous mathematician and scientist, Pythagoras's religious and political teachings have also been said to influence the philosophies of famous Greek Philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle.
One of his most notable achievements was to create the 'Pythagorean brotherhood' which influenced the likes of Plato and Aristotle and contributed hugely to the development of mathematics. Another notable contribution of Pythagoras' was mysticism. He believed that planetary bodies had a harmony of spheres and thus moved in accordance with mathematical equations. Such was the power of the idea that it was proven centuries later by Isaac Newton.
