'Raising Arizona' is an American film of the action-crime-comedy genre which was released in 1987.
It was directed and produced by Joel Coen and Ethan Coen. The film was written by both Joel Coen and Ethan Coen and starred Nicolas Cage and Holly Hunter in the lead roles.
Cage played the character of an ex-convict and repeat offender named H.I. "Hi" McDonnough while Holly Hunter played the character of H. I. McDonnough's wife, Edwina McDonnough, an ex-police officer. H. I. McDonnough is a convenience store robber who meets mug shots photographer and police officer Edwina, during one of his multiples times in prison. H.I. learns that Edwina had been dumped by her fiance and later proposes to her for marriage after he has been released from prison. They move into a desert mobile home and H.I. takes up a job in a machine shop but the couple's inability to have children cause a dent in their marital bliss. It is then that they learn about the quintuplet sons of Nathan Arizona, a local furniture magnate, and hatch a plan to kidnap one of their children whom they believe to be named Nathan Jr. What follows next is the plot of a typical Ethan Coen genre comedy.
The entire film was shot in about 10 weeks in Arizona itself, mostly in Phoenix and Scottsdale. Most of the crew members had already worked with the Coen brothers in the movie 'Blood Simple' and returned to shoot with the brothers for 'Raising Arizona'.
