Thomas Lanier Williams III, popularly known as Tennessee Williams, is an American playwright who was known as one of the pioneers of 20th Century American drama.

His plays act as the cornerstone of modern plays and have been held in high regard along with contemporary American playwright Arthur Miller as well as Eugene O'Neill. His most celebrated work is a play named 'The Glass Menagerie' which he had written in 1944 after thirty-three years of being obscure.

He was a Pulitzer Prize winning dramatist who has written countless other dramas such as 'Cat On A Hot Tin Roof' 1952, 'The Night Of The Iguana', 1961,  'Sweet Bird Of Youth', 1959, as well as 'A Streetcar Named Desire', 1947, which is deemed as one of the best American plays ever written.
