During his tenure with Dallas Cowboys, Tom Larry held a record 20 consecutive season wins between 1966 and 1985.
Born in Mission, Texas, Tom was always interested in athletics as he was known for his incredible pitching and football skills since his high school days. He played as a quarterback for Mission High school whose stadium is now named after him as the Tom Landry Stadium.
Landry was signed by the New York Yankees, becoming his first opportunity at experiencing pro-level football. It was a dream come true for him to play for the Yankees, although unfortunately, he failed to properly make his mark then.
Landry's first attempt at coaching came after he was drafted into the New York Giants. Under head coach Steve Owens, Tom Landry was asked to explain the defense tactics against the offense to his teammates.
Although, his time in New York Giants as a player was not a memorable one, with opportunities like these, Landry began taking interest in coaching football. In 1954 he became the defensive coordinator for the Giants, making the Giants one of the best defensive teams for the following seasons.
In 1960, he became the head coach of Dallas Cowboys, and so his 29-year journey with the Cowboys began. Although, it started off rough, as in the next four years the team performed poorly, the owner trusted in Landry's hard work and extended his contract for another 10 years, a decision which would later prove to be a blessing.
The Dallas Cowboys improved steadily after Landry introduced the new and effective 4-3 defense technique.
In 1966, Dallas Cowboys got their first winning season. But, little did they know, that their football winning streak wasn't ending for another 20 years under Tom Landry's coaching.
