Why Mermaid Quotes

A Mermaid is a mythical sea creature with the upper body and head of a human female and the tail of a fish, said to be found among waves of the oceans. Merman is the male equivalent of the mermaid.

Although, they are not as prevalent in stories and folklore as the mermaid.

There are thousands of stories about these mysterious beings; the earliest known tale appeared in Assyria about a goddess who, ashamed of her sin, jumped into a lake and took the form of a fish. However, the waters proved unable to conceal her divine beauty, and she transformed into a mermaid.

Mermaids are commonly associated with beauty, fertility, and existence under the ocean.

At the same time, in some cultures, they represent the brutal and deceitful nature of the sea that lures men to their deaths. As such, the physical portrayal of the mermaid varies from beautiful ethereal creatures to terrifying vicious monsters.

What parents should know

Mermaids are also often worshipped as deities in many cultures. These mermaids are more ethereal; they are invisible to the naked eye, yet they respond to prayer and may be interacted with.

Despite their undeniable allure, mermaids have a long history of being mysterious to the general public. However, several witnesses swear they have seen them. Reports of mermaids date back centuries, and sightings of mermaids were reported by sailors as far back as Christopher Columbus.

Maybe there are mermaids in Atlantis, too. As a mythical island, Atlantis sank and is now underwater. Some fictional accounts, such as those seen in the film, even have merpeople residing there.

What to discuss with kids

There are four distinct types of mermaids that have been documented throughout time. Here we have the classic mermaids, the selkies, the shapeshifting mermaids, and the merfolk.

A mermaid's abilities extend well beyond a human's, and her magical and physical prowess are equally impressive. They have exceptional mastery of natural phenomena like wind, fire, and water.

Aquamarine is the sea's gemstone. It is a stunning greenish-blue gemstone that legend has; it was formed from the tears of mermaids.‍
