At Kidadl we pride ourselves on offering families original ideas to make the most of time spent together at home or out and about, wherever you are in the world. We strive to recommend the very best things that are suggested by our community and are things we would do ourselves - our aim is to be the trusted friend to parents.
We try our very best, but cannot guarantee perfection. We will always aim to give you accurate information at the date of publication - however, information does change, so it’s important you do your own research, double-check and make the decision that is right for your family.
Kidadl provides inspiration to entertain and educate your children. We recognise that not all activities and ideas are appropriate and suitable for all children and families or in all circumstances. Our recommended activities are based on age but these are a guide. We recommend that these ideas are used as inspiration, that ideas are undertaken with appropriate adult supervision, and that each adult uses their own discretion and knowledge of their children to consider the safety and suitability.
Kidadl cannot accept liability for the execution of these ideas, and parental supervision is advised at all times, as safety is paramount. Anyone using the information provided by Kidadl does so at their own risk and we can not accept liability if things go wrong.
This day is celebrated all across the US.
Dwarfism Awareness Day is celebrated by people who are affected by it and their families and loved ones. It is also celebrated by anyone who believes in raising awareness about dwarfism.
This day first started in 2012.
This day was started by Little People of America (LPA).
Actor Billy Barty and his friends founded an organization, 'Little People of America' (LPA) to spread awareness about dwarfism around the world.
This organization is now blooming and has about 6500 members. In 2012, LPA wanted to honor Barty for his great work and decided to create this holiday. The month of October is known as National Dwarfism Awareness Month.
There is no particular custom or tradition for this day, but you can use this day to spread awareness about dwarfism around the world and support the people who have this condition.
The best way to spend this holiday is by learning more about achondroplasia. You can also spend the day hosting or volunteering in events hosted in support of dwarfs and their families.
If you know someone who is affected by this condition, spend the day celebrating them with great pride and teaching your children about dwarfism.
One in 15,000 to one in 40,000 live births are affected by dwarfism, and this day comes as an opportunity to make ourselves aware of the condition.
Apart from genes, there are about a dozen other medical conditions that can cause dwarfism, and you can find out more about them on this day.
The condition does not affect the activities of the person. They can do everything an average height person can, and this day aims to normalize the perception of the condition.
Events such as mini-golf championship, pizza nights, 2K-5K walk, or a simple gathering of people from the community can be held in honor of this day.
This day was created in honor of Billy Barty and his work towards the community of dwarfs.
This day has a deep impact on everyone. It gives us something to think about as a community and what we need to teach our children.
The Little People of America (LPA) is the founder of this day.
