We try our very best, but cannot guarantee perfection. We will always aim to give you accurate information at the date of publication - however, information does change, so it’s important you do your own research, double-check and make the decision that is right for your family.
Kidadl provides inspiration to entertain and educate your children. We recognise that not all activities and ideas are appropriate and suitable for all children and families or in all circumstances. Our recommended activities are based on age but these are a guide. We recommend that these ideas are used as inspiration, that ideas are undertaken with appropriate adult supervision, and that each adult uses their own discretion and knowledge of their children to consider the safety and suitability.
Kidadl cannot accept liability for the execution of these ideas, and parental supervision is advised at all times, as safety is paramount. Anyone using the information provided by Kidadl does so at their own risk and we can not accept liability if things go wrong.
The day is observed worldwide, with many countries having distinct ways of observing the day.
Parents, families, healthcare professionals, politicians, hospitals, hospital staff, organizations, many healthcare centers, and many more observe this day.
Initially, this day was known as International Awareness Day For Preterm Birth and started being observed from the year 2008.
The first day for premature birth was created by the European Parent Organization and was observed on November 17 to raise awareness about premature birth. This day later came to be known as World Prematurity Day.
Starting from 2008, this day dedicated to premature births has been observed worldwide to raise awareness regarding preterm babies and the problems they face due to being born preterm.
Purple is the official color of the day. People who observe the day wear purple ribbon pins or use purple-colored light bulbs to show solidarity.
You can help out and volunteer at your local hospital or help cheer up the children and families admitted to the hospital. Wearing a purple ribbon to show support and raise awareness about the day can also be done. Providing classes to mothers and families on how to take care of babies born preterm is another way of observing the day.
The color of the ribbon used for children born before the due date is purple.
Any baby born before 37 weeks of pregnancy qualifies as a premature baby.
The European Parent Organization started this day in the year 2008.
They may cry softly or not at all.
One in ten babies are born prematurely. Approximately 15 million births out of the total births in a year are premature.
