They belong to the species of rodents. Despite what the name suggests, guinea pigs do not resemble pigs or come from Guinea. They are native to South America and resemble rodents more with rodents.

Earlier the huge domestication of guinea pigs happened as livestock for meat. Westerners love to domesticate them. They are extremely responsive and friendly creatures and are easy to handle and take care of.

With countries and people devoting themselves in their breeding we see a variety of them in different colors and textures. They have been sent to labs for testing purposes since the nineteenth century.

The usage was so extensive that now any human testing in the lab is described as a guinea pig. They have sharp memories.

They can learn the complex path in search of food and can retain the memory for many months. They are good jumpers on small obstacles but avoid high obstacles. Many people have kept them as pets and company due to their cute and friendly nature.
