35 Kids' Films That The Whole Family Will Love

Choosing a film for the whole family can be tricky when you're trying to find something that everyone will like, especially something that will appeal to both kids and adults alike. But don't worry!

Just because a film is aimed at kids doesn't mean adults won't enjoy it too. We've found 35 of our favourite movies that the whole family will love.

The Incredibles

The Incredibles is a super animated film for families of heroes (or villains).

Join Mr Incredible and Elastigirl, or Bob and Helen Parr as they're now known, as they try and navigate parenthood and keeping their powers a secret after they've had to leave the world of superheroes behind.

It's only when Bob starts to receive mysterious messages that things start to change, and not necessarily for the better. Packed full of action, humour, some familiar family bickering and a few double entendre, it's easy to see why this 2004 film instantly became a classic.

If The Incredibles is already a much-watched movie in your house then why not check out The Incredibles 2, it's just as good and a chance to get to know the Parr's even better.

Cheaper By The Dozen

You might think you have a madhouse, but nothing compares to The Bakers and their 12 kids....yes, 12!

Tom and Mary have a lot on their plate as a successful football coach and author; add their children into the mix and things definitely get a bit mad. This is a heart-warming film all about family dynamics and parents trying to do their best, it stars Steve Martin too so you know you're in for a laugh.

Your kids might recognise similarities between themselves and some of the children in the film and you'll probably notice a few things you have in common with this crazy family too.

Paddington

The loveable Paddington Bear comes to life in this 2014 film. Aimed at kids but a story everyone knows, this is a brilliant option for the whole family.

Join Paddington as he attempts to navigate London and life with the Brown family. This little Peruvian bear somehow manages to get himself into a few spots of trouble! The film has a brilliant cast, starring Nicole Kidman, Hugh Bonneville and Ben Whishaw with appearances from other familiar faces such as Julie Walters, Matt Lucas and Peter Capaldi.

It's full of humour, heart-warming moments and is definitely one of our favourites. Paddington 2 is also well worth a watch if you haven't seen that either.

Horton Hears A Who

Dr Seuss's stories are staples on kids bookshelves and this tale should definitely be part of your movie collection too. Horton the elephant just wants to fit in but struggles to make friends and find his purpose.

That all changes when he discovers the city of Whoville, and all of it's Who inhabitants, existing on a tiny dust particle.

He makes it his mission to look after all the Whos and transport them to a safer and more stable home.

Horton encounters a few problems on his way, which of course affects the Whos in Whoville, particularly the Mayor who has 96 daughters and one son. This movie is brilliantly narrated and animated, perfect if you're after something that's a bit silly but has an important underlying message.

Wonder

Wonder is a wonderful movie all about 10-year-old Auggie Pullman who, because of the 27 surgeries he's had, looks a bit different from other kids his age.

Based on the best-selling book, the story follows Auggie as he goes to a normal school for the first time and has to navigate all the highs and many lows that come with it.

Starring Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson, this film will tug on your heartstrings as Auggie's parents just want the rest of the world to see how special he is.

It's a feeling that lots of parents will be able to relate to and will teach kids some important lessons about friendship and being kind despite people's differences.

The Adventures Of Tintin

Join Tintin and his friends as they take on the secret of the unicorn in one of the best kids movies. The film is full of action, comedy, plot twists and clever animation that will appeal to everyone.

From English markets to Moroccan ports and the Sahara Desert, Tintin, Captain Haddock and of course, Snowy, take you on a real journey. Watch out for pirates and pick-pockets to add to the excitement!

It's directed by the incredible Steven Spielberg so you know it's going to be something special.

This movie is a great option if you read the Tintin comics as a child, it'll give you a chance to tell your kids all about them and leave you feeling slightly nostalgic. It's one of the best movies for kids and adults.

Johnny English

This film might be aimed at slightly older kids but is full of childlike humour. Johnny English is a secret agent, but not a particularly good one.

After all the other agents are killed, it's up to Johnny and his partner to find out who stole the crown jewels and protect Britain from an evil new king!

After a few silly mistakes, the MI7 boss takes Johnny off the case, how will he prove his worth and save the day? Rowan Atkinson stars as Johnny and brings his classic comedy to the movie so you and your kids are bound to be left in stitches.

Flushed Away

When the humans are away, the mice will play (or something like that)! Rodney the mouse is a pampered pet living in Kensington.

His life is turned upside down when his owners leave and an intruder flushes him down the toilet. Rodney discovers a whole world of mice amongst the sewage system and is thrown out of his comfort zone as he tries to make his way home.

The hidden jokes and intelligent recreation of London are what help to make this movie a winner with all ages. We think it's one of the best-animated films!

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

It might be a slightly older film, but there's a reason Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is such a classic.

The brilliant musical stars Dick Van Dyke, playing the eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts who is just trying to make ends meet to provide for his two children. After he puts his efforts into fixing up an old race car, a magical adventure begins and you begin to wonder what is real and what is part of the imagination.

The film is a great reminder to dream big, but watch out for the child catcher!

Cinderella

For any fairytale loving families, the 2015 Disney version of Cinderella is a must-watch. We all know the classic story but see it as never before as Lily James, Helena Bonham Carter and Cate Blanchett bring the tale to life.

Cinderella's kindness won't get her to the ball but a bit of Fairy Godmother magic might! The film is brilliantly done with incredible costumes, set and dialogue. You'll feel completed transported into the wonderful world of Disney.

Megamind

Megamind is a hilarious and heart-warming animated film about how it's not always superheroes who save the day. Megamind came to earth after his planet was destroyed and his feud with the much-loved Metroman began.

He's been the villain his whole life, but when things get out of hand and he starts to get close to people, it's up to Megamind to decide who he wants to be.

The double entendres are brilliant and the film is a reminder of the small choices we can all make to be good. It's from the creators of Shrek and Madagascar so you know you're in for a laugh.

The Parent Trap

When two 11 year-olds from opposite sides of the world discover they're twins who were separated at birth, the only logical option is to switch places and fool their parents, right? That's what happens in the Walt Disney hit, The Parent Trap when twins Annie and Hallie meet at the same summer camp.

They decide to try and get their parents back together, but of course, it's not all smooth sailing. Kids will love the mischief while the adults will love the plot and the madness of it all.

Moana

This 2016 Disney film quickly became one of the most popular kids movies. Moana has never left her Polynesian island, but suddenly it's up to her to sail past the reef and find demigod Maui to help restore the land and save her people.

It's a princess story with a difference, full of adventures, legends and a brilliant soundtrack. The film reminds you to listen to your heart and do what you think is right. You'll fall in love with Moana's determination and be singing the songs for days.

Peter Rabbit

Peter Rabbit is very popular with his animal friends but far less so with the grumpy Mr McGregor. Their constant feud comes to a head in this film as they compete for the affections of Mr McGregor's animal-loving neighbour, Bea.

Peter and his friends pull all sorts of tricks as they try and come out on top. From partying in houses to jumping on trains, there's nothing these animals don't get up to. With James Corden starring as Peter, this film appeals to both kids and adults alike.

The Lion King

There was a 2019 remake, but we don't think you can beat the Disney animated original of The Lion King. The heartwarming classic has appealed to all ages for years so if you haven't sat down and watched it together, now is the time.

Join Simba as he grows up and learns what's important in life with the help of Timon, Pumba, Nala and a few others along the way. Elton John's brilliant soundtrack brings this film to life.

Nanny McPhee

The seven Brown children are motherless and, for the 17th time, nannyless. That is, until the mysterious Nanny McPhee arrives.

She hasn't got an easy task, these mischievous kids have plenty of tricks up their sleeves to try and get rid of her but maybe, they need each other more than they realise. Starring Colin Firth and Emma Thompson, this film is all about the importance of family, supporting each other and maybe, just a little bit of magic.

Toy Story

We're sure you've seen it, but this list wouldn't be complete without the Disney Pixar classic, Toy Story. All four films are great but you definitely should start at the beginning.

Join Woody and the gang as they meet Buzz Lightyear for the first time and have to adjust to a new normal. With Tom Hanks as the voice of Woody, there is a reason this film has survived the test of time and is such a hit with all ages.

Matilda

We're sure you know Roald Dahl's classic story but if not, Matilda is a very clever little girl with parents who aren't very nice and a horrible headmistress, Miss Trunchbull.

She manages to find happiness through her books, her lovely teacher, Miss Honey, and some new friends. As the film goes on, Matilda realises there is something special about her and she has a few secret powers up her sleeve to help her change things for the better.

This wholesome kids movie has a superb soundtrack and is a great reminder that it's ok to be a bit different.

How To Train Your Dragon

Dragons, Vikings and a huge fire breathing beast, this film is miles away from the real world but that's one of the reasons why it's so great. Hiccup is a young boy who must kill a dragon to be accepted into his tribe and become a man, but things go slightly differently when he ends up befriending one instead.

He discovers the importance of challenging what you've been taught and standing up for what you believe in, lessons we all need to be reminded of.

Sing

Any budding pop-stars out there? Then Sing is the animation for you!

A Koala named Buster is trying to save his theatre by hosting a singing competition for anyone and everyone, pigs, mice and gorillas alike. The cast of this cartoon is brilliant, Matthew McConaughey, Scarlett Johansson and Reese Witherspoon help to bring the film to life.

The script is great and there is a real reminder of the need to support each other when times get tough, something that is especially important at the moment. Be prepared for some excellent music too!

Night At The Museum

Your kids might've had a sleepover at a museum, but we doubt it was anything like this.

Ben Stiller plays Larry Daley, the new Nightguard at The New York Museum Of Natural History, who quickly realises this job is going to involve a lot more than what he signed up for! Once the sun sets, history literally comes to life and it's up to Larry to keep everything under control.

With appearances from Ricky Gervais, Dick Van Dyke and a bit of a history lesson, this film is good fun for everyone.

The Jungle Book

Another iconic Disney classic, we don't think you can beat the original animated Jungle Book. Mowgli has been raised by wolves but the time has come for the young boy to leave the jungle and return to the 'man-village'.

Baloo and Bagheera help him along the way but some other animals aren't so trustworthy. After a long journey and escaping a man-eating tiger, it's up to Mowgli to decide where his home will be. This heart-warming story is bound to leave everyone smiling.

The Greatest Showman

Not necessarily a kids film but one everyone will love. If you haven't seen The Greatest Showman, you're missing out on a marvellous musical. It's all about realising how we should embrace our differences as they're what make us special.

The music is brilliant, the costumes are great and the choreography is full of life. Starring Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron, the film will remind you to find the magic in daily life and always remember what's important. It's one of the best family movies.

The BFG

Another brilliant Roald Dahl adaptation, The BFG is heart-warming and a great distraction from lockdown. Join the Big Friendly Giant and little Sophie as they work out how to navigate the world of whizz pops and terrifying giants in an unusual friendship.

The Queen Of England even makes an appearance in this magical movie! The film perfectly combines old cities with a world beyond our wildest dreams in a way that seems entirely real and who knows, maybe it is.

The Sound Of Music

Another classic, The Sound Of Music is a musical we're sure the adults have seen but is one to introduce to the kids if they haven't! Join Maria and the seven Von Trapp children as they get to know each other after they got off on the wrong foot.

Beautiful scenery and classic music, this is one of the best family movies.
