Before you get planning, take a look at our handy list of locations to find the best afternoon tea in Berkshire, with scones, clotted cream, sandwiches, teas and all the trimmings!  

Whilst not all specifically aimed at children, afternoon tea can be for everyone... with discounted children's options, access to gluten-free or vegan options and generally just very welcoming locations, afternoon tea can be enjoyed by the whole family. Read below for Kidadl's favourite locations and enjoy your afternoon tea in Berkshire today.

Coworth Park, Ascot

Coworth Park is a must-visit location if you are looking for an excellent afternoon tea in Berkshire. This won the 2018 Afternoon Tea Awards, so is well known for its cakes and is guaranteed to be an enjoyable experience.

The laid back setting of this afternoon tea makes it perfect for a family visit, with discounted prices for children up to 11 and completely free for any child under five. Please Note: There is a smart casual dress code.

Parking: There is complimentary parking.

COVID-19 Precautions: Taking part in the Eat Out To Help Out scheme, you can enjoy a discount on your afternoon tea from Monday to Wednesday until 31st August.  Additional health and safety measures have been implemented throughout the kitchens and restaurant and you can even get yours as a takeaway!  

Whittingtons Berkshire Tea Barge, Reading

Open now for a very unique afternoon tea experience is this afternoon tea on a barge! Moving through the Thames whilst enjoying a traditional cream tea is a great way to spend an afternoon with the family.

Opening Times: Friday, 11-4pm. Weekends, 10.30-4.30pm.

Parking: Park in Hills Meadow Car Park on George Street.

COVID-19 Precautions: With reduced capacity, you must book the afternoon tea barge before you go. There are seats available in and outside. All bookings must be done through their website, not Facebook or via phone call, so be sure to go there to book.

The Vineyard, Newbury

In the heart of Berkshire, The Vineyard welcomes children of any ages for afternoon tea, just be sure to book first! This is a more expensive family trip, priced at £29.50 each, but is accommodating to families too.

It is important to note that there is a smart casual dress code for this venue, so be sure to dress accordingly to ensure you can get your afternoon tea!

Opening Times: Every day, 3-4.30pm.

Parking: Limited on-site parking.

COVID-19 Precautions: Booking is essential, so make sure you plan ahead and book your table for tea. With the Eat Out To Help Out scheme, you can enjoy your discounted afternoon tea from Monday to Wednesday until 31st August. There are beautiful gardens available to sit in as well, if you feel more comfortable outside.

Clivedon House Hotel, Taplow

Clivedon House is open for afternoon tea, however, this is a luxury afternoon tea, important to note if you're taking children. There is an eclectic mix of foods, so is excellent for children who are adventurous with their food!

They also have gluten-free and dairy-free options to cater for any dietary needs. This afternoon tea in Berkshire has a beautiful view of the Thames, which you can enjoy whilst eating your scones!

Opening Times: Monday to Saturday, 12-2.30pm. Sunday, 2.30-4.30pm.

Parking: On-site car parking.

COVID-19 Precautions: There is limited capacity so booking in advance is a necessity. Weekends are especially busy. Extensive health and safety measures have been put in place.

Windsor Castle Hotel, Windsor

This is an afternoon tea with a royal twist! With traditional afternoon tea, or smaller cream teas perfect for children, this is definitely a good place to visit. Its location, in beautiful Windsor castle, is an added plus, with plenty of room to explore the Berkshire countryside once you have eaten.

Parking: Parking spaces in their car park will also need to be booked in advance.

COVID-19 Precautions: It is important to book ahead for this as it does get booked up quickly! This is an ALLSAFE certified location as they have implemented rigorous health measures.

Cantley House Hotel, Wokingham

These extremely well priced afternoon teas are great to take the whole family out on a low budget. From smaller cream teas to traditional afternoon tea, there is something for everyone, children included. This is a relaxing setting for a quiet family afternoon out, looking across the Berkshire countryside.

Please Note: A deposit is needed on every booking at Cantley House.

Opening Times: Every day, 12-6pm.  

Parking: On site parking.

COVID-19 Precautions: Booking is not a necessity, however, to avoid being disappointed, book ahead by calling their reservations team.

Oakley Court Hotel, Windsor

Oakley Court have a children's afternoon tea for just £15 amongst their selection so this location is perfect for a family trip. This junior-sized portion makes Oakley Court one of the best places to take your family for afternoon tea.

Opening Times: Monday to Friday, 1-4.30pm. Weekends, 12.30-4.30pm.

Parking: Free parking and disabled bays available to guests, day visitors may have limited parking.

COVID-19 Precautions: To avoid disappointment, be sure to book in advance.

Bel And The Dragon Hotel, Windsor

Located near Windsor Castle, this is an excellent place both where you will find a few modern twists to the typical cream tea experience. Why not book this afternoon tea in Berkshire that the whole family will enjoy?

Opening Times: Wednesday to Sunday, 3-5pm.

Parking: There is no car park at the hotel, so you would need to park in the surrounding roads and local village.

COVID-19 Precautions: They are following all COVID-19 health and safety regulations.  

The Roseate Reading, Reading

The Roseate, Berkshire, is open again for traditional afternoon teas, so visit The Reading Room restaurant for a family trip. They can accommodate larger groups, meaning that this is an excellent location for the whole family.

Opening Times: Every day, 2-5.30pm.

Parking: Very limited on-site parking.

COVID-19 Precautions: Surfaces are sanitised regularly and the staff have undergone training to ensure health and safety in the Roseate cafes. Be sure to book in advance, you can never be too prepared and you don't want to be disappointed.
