The bohor reedbuck (Redunca redunca) is a medium-sized family of antelopes that are native to Africa especially the countries of Uganda and Tanzania. The animals prefer living close to water bodies for their dietary supplement of grass.
The males mark their territory by urine. The reedbucks remain active all day but look for cover during the midday.
They graze mostly at night while spending the day looking out for threats and protecting the young calves. The females often form groups among themselves and their calves but remain solitary without a calf. Often the territories of the male overlap with the female group.
The young female gradually goes apart from her mother and is fully mature within a year of its birth. The male on the other hand is driven out by their fathers once their horns start developing.
They form small groups of two or three on the outer borders of territories. They gain maturity after four years.
The bohor reedbuck (Redunca redunca) remains hidden from dangers by camouflaging itself behind the grasslands of Africa. They remain motionless when they see a predator approaching instead of running away and slowly begin retreating into grass covers.
Once the predator comes too close, they run away and alert the other reedbucks by a shrill whistle. People have been prone to hunt these animals in the past due to their large horns.
