Rottweiler facts are very interesting and full of different pieces of information.

Rottweilers are one of the oldest pure breed dogs in the world. They are known to have originated when the Roman brought them in for herding cattle in Germany.

They have also worked in legions along the alps. These dogs did a lot of work and were commonly called the Butcher's dog since they carried the cart of meat for the butchers.

When the Romans left, they left behind these dogs which bred with the local canines in the town of Rottweil. From this, the modern-day Rottweilers were born. Owing to its lineage, this dog is full of energy and playful in nature.

They are prone to getting obese so maintaining their diet is important. This strong and playful breed makes an excellent companion and a loving pet.

Rottweilers have two layers of coat on their body. The outermost layer has medium-length hair which is shorter in height near its legs and face. The outer coat is usually prominent near its thighs and neck area.

The amount of hair and coatings also depends on the climate in which the Rottweilers are bred. These dogs are dominantly black in color and have brown, rust, or mahogany markings on the body on areas like the muzzle, on top of the eyes, chest, and also legs.

They are pretty muscular dogs since their heritage is linked to cart pulling, cattle herding, and lots more. They have thick hindquarters. These dogs have a well-proportioned body with a medium-sized head.

The nose is broader than most other dogs which have large nostrils. They have black lips and are usually not visible. They have a total of 42 teeth.

These dogs have a firm neck and a straight back. The croup portion is slightly broad and curved.

They have straight forelegs which are at a distance from one another and the blade of the shoulder is at a 45-degree angle. Their hind feet are longer than the front feet. They have a shining body with short and straight hair.

This dog breed also communicates by blinking faster or squinting, which indicates a happy mood.

Rottweilers are working dogs and have a history of chasing and managing cattle and pulling carts. Naturally, they have a lot of stamina and are good at running.

A Rottweiler dog can run at a speed of 20-25 mph (32.1-40.2 kph). According to the American Kennel Club, if Rottweiler puppies are slow in the beginning, it may mean that they will be faster than those adult Rottweilers.

How much does a Rottweiler weigh?

A female Rottweiler weighs around 77.1-105.8 lb (35-48 kg) whereas a male Rottweiler weighs around 110.2-132.2 lb (50-60 kg). These dogs have a tendency to put on a lot of weight so a proper Rottweiler diet needs to be maintained.

These dogs grow up to 24 months so the diet and training and exercise should be modulated according to their growth.

What do they eat?

Rottweilers require a diet in which they need 22-26% protein. An adult Rottweiler dog needs around 2,100 calories per day.

The protein diet usually consists of meat like turkey, chicken, or lamb. If the calorie exceeds, the dogs tend to get overweight.

A newborn Rottweiler puppy, for the first month, only has milk from its mother. When the puppy reaches two months old, they eat meat for the first time.

The meat needs to be cut into small pieces since the puppy is incapable of chewing and tearing large pieces. At this age, they can also eat a few vegetables and dairy products. When the puppy reaches three months old, the frequency of the food serving should be increased to five times.

With the increase in age, the frequency of the meals decreases. For example, when the dog is six months old, the food serving reduces to three times per day.

It is said that raw meat is what a Rottweiler's diet should consist of but it also increases the chance of infection since it can contain parasites that can seriously affect the dog's health. So, the dog owners usually boil the meat before serving it to them.

Are they slobbery?

Yes, Rottweilers are known to slobber but the amount of drooling varies from dog to dog. Some of them drool all the time, while some drool when they're thirsty or hungry.

The male Rottweilers tend to drool more than their female counterparts because of the distinct shape of their head but, under certain circumstances, the females can also drool more than males.

Would they make a good pet?

Even though Rottweilers may seem very scary from afar, they can be a very well-socialized breed with the right amount of training and socialization. Rottweilers can be extremely family-friendly and can be protective of kids and family members.

Since these dogs have a high energy level, they love to play around with children. However, this breed of dogs should not be left with children unsupervised without any prior training.

These dogs need to be trained with children from a very young age. Otherwise, it can turn ferocious and have the infamous Rottweiler temperament if it feels threatened.
