The Affenhuahua is a designer toy dog, meaning it is a hybrid between two purebred dogs. The Affenhuahua was developed during the designer dog movement in the late '90s, in the United States, by crossing the tiny Mexican Chihuahua and the German Affenpinscher. Breeders wanted to mix the two small breeds to create a loving lapdog, that could alert its owners of potential intruders or any sort of danger. Parental breeds of the Affenhuahua are compact and small dogs, but they have different personalities. A Chihuahuas' personality is fairly aggressive but it's very intelligent, whereas the Affenpinscher has a playful and fun-loving personality! Making the mixed Affenhuahua adaptable to various environments as they inherit some of the best traits from the parents; they are small size dogs with high energy levels, look cute, training them is not difficult, they are very intelligent, the temperament of this breed type is sociable, alert, and brave.

Generally, these dogs are healthy, but some are prone to a few health issues, therefore it is important to have regular veterinary checkups. Some common health problems Affenhuahuas suffer from include collapsed trachea, hip dysplasia, dental disease, patellar luxation. An Affenhuahua can also fall sick if it gains too much weight, proper exercise such as at least an hour-long walk every day with a couple of play sessions should be done and taken care of by the owners. An Affenhuahua dog hates being left alone, and requires constant attention from its owner, leaving them alone for a long time may cause a lot of stress and health issues as well. It should not be left alone with young children, as this dog breed is delicate and fragile, playful children could unconsciously hurt the small dog.

We do not have information exclusive to the Affenhuahua breed. However, dogs have been living with humans for over 30,000 years now. They have evolved and developed certain skills that allow them to communicate better with humans. Dogs communicate vocally, and through visual actions. Visual communication includes modifying or moving different parts of their body to interact, observe and share the information, various postures and gestures, mouth and head positioning, modifying eye gaze, licking and sniffing, ear and tail positioning, facial expressions. A dog has an extensive and impressive repertoire of vocal, visual, and olfactory signals which allows it t0 have conspecific and heterospecific communication, dog to dog, and dog to human. Dogs usually use the same behavioral repertoire or signals while communicating with dogs and humans, though the signals are the same their meaning may differ when directed towards humans. Vocal, or auditory communication includes growls, barks, howls, whines and whimpers, low and high-pitched screams, sighs, and pants. Olfactory or gustatory communication involves analyzing scents and pheromones in their surroundings.
If a dog is not familiar with your scent they might get a little defensive and send signals indicating that they want you to maintain distance. Once they get a good sniff of you and are familiar with your scent, they will always greet you with tail wags and happy gestures. A dogs' tail plays a vital role when it's trying to communicate, as the tail is usually the first thing humans observe in a dog to understand its mood. To communicate willingness, positive and good mood, and confidence a dog's tail is held tall. On the contrary, when a dog is anxious, has negative emotions, and has an unpleasant mood its tail is held low or tucked between its limbs. When excited and happy a dog wags its tail loosely from side to side to communicate friendliness and a playful mood. However, a wagging tail does not necessarily mean that the dog is friendly, a dog can display excitement and friendly signals but may switch to aggressive, or defensive signals in an instant if they don't take a liking to you.
