The American bullboxer pit is a mixed breed dog from two popular parent breeds –boxers and American pit bull terrier dog breeds. It is small to medium size, with a broad head, brown eyes, triangle-shaped ears, and long legs. It has a short smooth coat and does not do well in very hot or very cold weather conditions.

Descending from working dogs, it is a competent guardian dog, with a tendency to be protective around owners and family. In fact, this breed is also known to get aggressive around strangers. Conversely, it is loyal and loves to play, and can be an excellent family member canine.

This American bull boxer pit is a high-energy dog and needs regular exercise and mental stimulation in order to remain in good health. It is also a stubborn breed. So it is important to begin training and socialization at a young age. Fortunately, it responds well to positive reinforcement and is easy to train when the boxer mix puppy is two to six months old.

This breed is not recognized by the AKC (American Kennel Club), but it is recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club, exclusively for the mixed breed and designer breed.

At Kidadl, you can explore several other adorable domestic dog species, including the pitbull mastiff mix and the boxer dog.

Bullboxer Pit Interesting Facts

What type of animal is a bullboxer pit?

A bullboxer pit is a four-legged canine animal, much like a wolf.

What class of animal does a bullboxer pit belong to?

A bullboxer (and all dog breeds) belongs to the Mammalia class.

How many bullboxer pits are there in the world?

The exact count of pitbull boxer mix dogs is unknown. But this is not considered an endangered dog breed. Although it is not recognized by the AKC due to its mixed breed, its inheritance comes from two popular parent breeds. Canine experts estimate that may be several thousands of these dogs bred across North America, Europe, and several parts of the world.

Where does a bullboxer pit live?

Bullboxer pits have a short coat with a strong muscle structure that is adaptable to a moderate climate. So you can find them on a farm as a guardian dog, or in an urban setting.

What is a bullboxer pit habitat?

A bullboxer pit is a cross between boxers and American pit bull terriers – two popular dog breeds that thrive all over the world. Bullboxer pits inherit this trait and can survive in multiple habitats.

They have a short coat that can help them live comfortably in moderate temperature conditions. They may need frequent bathing during summer so they stay cool. However, they do not have the double coat required to survive in extreme climates. So keep your pet bullboxer pit dogs away from very hot or very cold weather conditions.

They were originally bred as working dogs. So they do need plenty of exercise in order to stay healthy. This is not a dog that does well in a cooped habitat (like a small urban apartment). Instead, they thrive on farms, in homes with a large backyard, or even in an urban setting - provided they are taken for long walks every day.

Who does bullboxer pit live with?

Bullboxer pits belong to a domestic (mixed) dog breed. So they are most comfortable with other domestic animals (like dogs, trained house cats, farm animals).

Pitbull boxer mix dogs are good watchdogs for their owners. They are also safe and friendly companions for children. They do require training to begin early, ideally when puppies are just over a month old. With the right support, their loyal and protective nature can make them great pet companions for the entire family!

How long does a bullboxer pit live?

A bullboxer can live up to 10-14 years, especially when it is put on a balanced food diet with plenty of exercise, preferably daily.

How do they reproduce?

Pitbull boxer mix dogs are a domestic dog breed. So their reproduction is often managed by breeders, under controlled conditions (like age, lineage, etc.), to avoid health disorders like hip dysplasia, cardiomyopathy, cancer, etc.

Dogs in this breed achieve sexual maturity when they are one year old. It is common for breeders to wait until they are two years old before they are bred. This is to ensure that the dogs have the strength and maturity to withstand the mating and birthing process. Adult males are often heavier than adult females.

Like with all dog breeds, a female bullboxer pit comes into the heat twice a year. This includes a 3-11 day window when the female welcomes male attention. Breeders use this time to mate her with a high-quality dog. Quality breeders will also mate a female no more than once a year, with a gap of two to three years between litters. This ensures the health and quality of both mother and bullboxer pit puppies.

After the mating occurs, the female has a gestation period of two months. The average litter size is three to six puppies. It is advisable to allow each puppy to remain with the mother to nurse until it is four to six weeks before it is sold.

Note: This breed is not recognized by the AKC (American Kennel Club). It is recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club that is exclusively for the mixed breed and designer breed.

What is their conservation status?

The conservation status of Bullboxer pit dogs is of Least Concern.

Bullboxer Pit Fun Facts

What do bullboxer pits look like?

A boxer pitbull mix is small to a medium-sized dog and inherits physical traits from its boxer and pitbull (terrier) parents. This is not necessarily in equal order, so height and weight can vary between dogs. The largest of them can have a height 20-26 in (50.8-66 cm) weight 50-80 lb (22.6-36.2 kg).

Bullboxer pits universally have a broad head, brown eyes, triangle-shaped ears that flop down at the edges, and long legs. Finally, these boxer pitbull mix dogs come in various colors (black, tan, and shades of brown), and have a short coat that does not require daily grooming.

The Bullboxer Pit Dog

How cute are they?

A bullboxer pit is quite a cute animal, especially when it is still a puppy. In fact, even the hardened dog-hater may succumb to the dog’s curious, friendly, and enthusiastic disposition! But these are a stubborn breed and resistant to forming new habits as they turn much older. It is hence advisable to introduce them to training and socialization when they are still young - like a three to six weeks old puppy.

How do they communicate?

Dogs use both verbal and non-verbal cues to communicate with their owners. For instance, a wagging tail is often synonymous with excitement. A short, rough bark indicates interest, while continuous barking indicates perceived threat. Also, their ears and hair will stand up to reflect this.

Bullboxer pits do not like to be left alone. They will sulk when the owners get back, demanding an extra dose of affection. They can also get destructive if they are forced to live solitary lives.

How big is a bullboxer pit?

A bullboxer pit dog is 16-20 in (40.6-50.8 cm) tall and can weigh up to 80 lb (36.2 kg). The biggest of them can hence be 8-10 times the size of a house cat.

How fast can a bullboxer pit run?

This is variable, as this depends on which (parent) side the bullboxer pit dog takes after. Most bullboxer pits can run at a speed of 25-30 mph (40.2-48.2 kph).

How much does a bullboxer pit weigh?

A bullboxer pit is a small-to-medium-sized dog breed, with a weight range of 50-80 lb (22.6-36.2 kg). Also, male dogs tend to be heavier than female dogs in this breed.

What are the male and female names of the species?

A male boxer pit mix dog is called a stud, and a female bullboxer is called a bitch. This nomenclature is common across all dog breeds.

What would you call a baby bullboxer pit?

A baby pitbull boxer mix dog is called a puppy. Again, this is common across all dog breeds.

What do they eat?

Bullboxer pit dogs are a domestic dog breed and feed on dog food. This can include rice, grains, vegetables, meat, milk, and some fruit (in restricted quantity). There is also commercially available canned or packed dog food that is suitable for mixed breeds. Also, this is a breed that loves to overeat. So bullboxer pits require a balanced food diet with plenty of exercise in order to avoid health problems as they grow.

Are they slobbery?

Yes, bullboxer pits take after their parents in their regard, with a high drool quotient. If you have a small space and like things ultra-clean at all times, these potentially slobbery dogs are not for you!

Would they make a good pet?

Yes, they would make a good dog pet, especially for families. But here are some tips on getting the best out of this dog breed.

Despite their loyal and protective nature, these dogs also love to be loved, especially by their immediate family. In fact, they do not do well when they are left alone. If this happens frequently, they can get into aggressive or destructive habits.

Bullboxer pits have a voracious appetite which they inherit from their mixed parents (Boxers and American pit bull terrier breeds). So you will need to manage your pet dog’s health with a balanced food diet.

Fortunately, these high-energy dogs absolutely love to run and play. They require a fair amount of daily exercise (between one to two hours) to avoid health problems as they age (like hip dysplasia). It is always a good idea for owners (or children) to take your pet boxer dog for long walks every day.

Bullboxer pits tend to chew, especially when they are untrained puppies. This can be addressed by giving your dog chew toys to play with. It is also advisable to begin training your dog at a young age (two to six months).

These dogs have a short smooth coat which requires minimal grooming. A weekly brushing routine is enough to keep your pet boxer dog away from skin-related health ailments.

In summary, if you want a high-energy dog that is a good guard dog, safe with children, and loves to play, pit bulls can be the best dog for you!

Did you know...

This is a relatively expensive dog breed, especially if you intend to buy a puppy. An alternative is to adopt an adult from a shelter. The price of a bullboxer pit puppy can cost between $500-$1,000 USD.

As with all dog breeds, the pitbull boxer mix dog is vulnerable to a rattlesnake, a predator that is common in the country.

Does bullboxer pit need grooming?

They need a minimal amount of grooming (thorough brushing once a week), as they have a short coat that does not shed for most of the year. These dogs can also get uncomfortable in hotter climates and may need extra care during hot summers (like frequent bathing to cool off).

Does bullboxer pit need exercise?

Yes, bullboxer pit dogs are high-energy dogs and need frequent exercise to avoid health problems as they grow. It is advised that you allow your pit bullboxer dogs to run for at least one or two hours every day.

Known health issues common to this breed include hip dysplasia, cardiomyopathy, and bloating. Fortunately, most of the health issues can be minimized for these dogs with a balanced diet and plenty of exercise.
