What is a doxle's habitat?

Doxle is a dachshund beagle mix breed. The beagle has been around since ancient times.

Its history takes us so many years back that historians are still deciding the origin time of the breed, but from that time, they were companions of humans, helping them catch rabbits and hares. The people who couldn't afford or have horses used to keep these little guys as pets to help them with their hunts.

They were known as hunting dogs. The Dachshunds are another breed whose origin dates back to almost 600 years ago.

They were called 'badger dogs' at one point because they were experts at digging up the soil and making badgers come out of their homes.

Some diseases that you should look out for are glaucoma, epilepsy, cherry eye, ear infections, hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, intervertebral disc disease, and hypothyroidism.

Both beagles and dachshunds have diseases associated with their respective breed and if your dog or bitch has any of them, chances are your beagle-dachshund mix puppy will inherit them too. The other thing is their temperament.

If the parents have any personality trait that does not go with their breed and if they are negative then the puppy might inherit that particular negative personality trait as well.

Breeding of the puppies should aim for the betterment of the breed, and for that, checking these things before breeding is necessary. If the dog and bitch are clear of everything, then they both should be at least two years of age for them to be able to breed.

The bitch should already have completed at least three to four heat cycles.

What do doxles look like?

Beagle and dachshund mix, the doxle are a playful breed.

*This is not a picture of the doxle, but a picture of one of their parent breeds, the dachshund. If you have an image of a doxle please let us know at hello@kidadl.com

Doxles are short to medium-sized dogs. Their appearance depends a lot on their parent breeds.

This beagle-dachshund mix may look more like the beagle, or it may look more like the dachshund, but there are a few general characteristics to their appearance. The dogs have long bodies with short legs. They have long muzzles along with long floppy ears.

They have rounded eyes that are mostly brown. Their coat can vary in color and fur. They can have harsh, straight, wiry, fine, or any kind of fur, and the color of the coat can be a mixture of colors or solid both.

The colors these dogs come in are white, brown, golden, chocolate, black, and tan, or combinations of the colors. The coat can be of both short and medium length.

How cute are they?

This dachshund beagle mix dog can be extremely cute owing to its big round eyes, floppy ears, small legs, and small stature. They are the small packages that all the good things come in.

They are also friendly, loyal, attentive, playful, well-mannered, and good with kids and other animals alike. These traits of the breed surely make them more adorable.

How do they communicate?

All dogs communicate in two ways. The first is through body language and the second is, vocally.

Every dog has the ability to express itself through body language. The owners should know these traits to understand their dogs better.

For example, if your dog is in a relaxed position, lying down on the floor, looking at you with its ears erect, then the chances are the dog wants to be left alone. If your dog is standing or sitting straight, looking away, and licking its nose, chances are the dog is stressed.

If your dog is crouching with its tail between its legs, looking shaky, and with its ears down, chances are the dog is fearful of something. These are only a few of the many ways dogs express themselves through body language.

Other than that, they also express themselves vocally. During that time, the owners need to habituate themselves to their dog's bark to recognize what a particular bark means. Doxles have a tendency to bark at a moderate to high rate.

The barks can mean a lot of things. Doxles are alert and watchful dogs that can bark when they see any stranger at the door. They can bark a lot when they are feeling particularly bored or when they are trying to alert you to some danger.

How big is a doxle?

Doxle is a small to medium-sized dog breed. Their size depends on their parents, because one of their parent breeds, the dachshund comes in two different sizes.

One is miniature and another is standard. So, the size of the doxles can vary according to that, but generally, the height of the doxle is about 5-15 in (12.7-38.1 cm) when they are standing.

When compared to the borzoi, this beagle-dachshund mix is two times smaller than them. The average height of a borzoi is about 28-32 in (71.1-81.2 cm) when they are standing.

How fast can a doxle run?

The exact speed at which a doxle runs is not known, but we can guess from its parent breeds. The dachshund can run pretty fast compared to their short legs, but they can't run very far.

They run at a speed of 15-30 mph (24.1-48.2 kph). The beagles are also a fast-running breed. They also like the dachshund breed, run at the speed of 20 mph (32.1 kph).

Beagles also have a disadvantage owing to their small legs, that they cannot run very far. Hence, we can certainly assume, that a doxle would also be able to run at a speed of 15-20 mph (24.1-32.1 kph) and won't be able to run very far.

How much does a doxle weigh?

A doxle is a small to medium-sized dog. They weigh only about 11-30 lb (5-13.6 kg). Keep an eye on your doxle to make sure that their weight is within this range. Mess than this means that they are underweight and more than the range means that they are overweight or obese.

What are the male and female names of the species?

The males are called dogs, and the females are called bitches.

What would you call a baby doxle?

A baby of a dog is called a puppy, so a baby of a doxle would be called a doxle puppy.

What do they eat?

The diet of any dog depends on three different factors. Such as their age, their size, and their energy level.

Dogs go through three life stages, which are puppy, adulthood, and senior.

When they enter one life stage from another, their food habits change. When the doxles are puppies, they should be given small amounts of food three or four times a day.

When they enter adulthood or the senior stage, they should be given food twice a day spread throughout the day at an equal time gap. The amount of food changes too during these times.

This beagle dachshund mix breed is small to medium-sized dogs who have a high energy level, which means they require high activity level and food should be given to them in accordance with that.

If you are giving your dog commercial food, then make sure it is high-quality ones, so that it can help them with their growth and keep their health well.

You can also give them tailor-made food as suggested by the vet, but whatever their diet includes, it should be well-balanced in terms of nutrients.

The diet plan should have a perfect balance of carbohydrates, vitamins, protein, and good fats. This breed is also prone to obesity, so keep an eye on the amount of food you ate giving and check their health regularly, and whenever in doubt, check with the vet.

Are they slobbery?

Doxles don't slobber at all. They have a very low drooling tendency.

If your doxle is drooling too much, you should consult the vet, however, they do shed a lot though. Whether they have a short coat or long, they shed around the house quite a lot, so your house might not slobber that much owing to their low drooling tendency, but it will require cleaning due to the heavy shedding.

Would they make a good pet?

Doxles can make great pets. Their parent breed, the dachshunds are great family pets and so are the doxles as generally they can get along well with kids and other pets.

They have inherited a great enough prey drive from their parent breeds, but it can be controlled with a certain amount of training from a very early age. They are small dogs, so it can harm and injure the dogs if small kids try to mount them.

They are best suited for families with kids who are a little older.

They have a low drooling tendency, which will keep the house smelling nice, but they shed a lot, which can cause you to clean the house many times a day. They have various kinds of fur.

If your dog has short hair, weekly brushing will be enough, but if it has long hair, grooming at a more frequent level might be needed. Overall, they can be perfect pets for many people.

Did you know...

This beagle dachshund mix is recognized by American Canine Hybrid Club, Designer Breed Registry, and Designer Dogs Kennel Club as a designer breed.

Characteristics And Health Issues

They have sweet personalities and are great family pets. They can be good with other dogs at the house.

They have a watchdog mentality, which helps them to be alert.

They are also loyal, well-mannered, playful, and loving. They can be wary of strangers and their tendency to bark might lead them to bark at strangers, but with enough training, that can be controlled too.

They are an active breed but are prone to obesity, so they can be taken for exercising with you, which can help both the dog and you.

The dogs are a healthy breed, so they don't have many health problems, but their breeding process is still being perfected, so they still might inherit some health issues from their parent breeds like hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, intervertebral disc diseases, glaucoma, obesity, hypothyroidism, cherry eye, ear infections, or epilepsy.

Hence, take your dog to the vet to get it checked out often.

Having Your Own Doxle

Having your own doxle will require some conditions for you to follow. They need a high amount of activities.

They have a tendency to dig, so you will have to train them beforehand so that they do it outside or not do it at all. Their trainability is high, so it's not a problem to train them to behave the right way.

They can be apartment pets, but regular exercise will be needed for them to be fit. They don't need regular bathing.

Both beagles and dachshunds can be bathed every three months. Hence, a doxle can also be bathed every three months. They can be comfortable in both cold and hot weather, but they prefer slightly warmer weather more.

Too much cold weather can cause them problems. Now, if you want to take them home, first you should look in the shelters if there is any doxle who would benefit from your help.

If you still want to go to the breeders, then go to a good one and know about the history of the parents. Doxle puppies cost about $500-$1000 USD.
