If you love small dogs like pocket beagles or Cavalier King Charles spaniels, then here we have all the information on the Malchi. Malchi (Maltese-Chihuahua mix) is a breed of designer dog that has the chihuahua and the Maltese as its parent breeds. It is a small dog with a huge personality. This Maltese chihuahua mix dog is really cute with its tiny size, beautiful soft fur, and affectionate trait. The Malchi is usually gentle, goofy, protective, and playful. It can also be a little lazy sometimes as its energy level is moderate. However, the Malchi also might get a little stubborn streak from the chihuahua. As a result, it becomes a little problem to train the dog properly, but starting its training from the time when it's a puppy might help. If your Malchi (Maltese chihuahua mix) puppy has long hair, then be ready for regular grooming. Keep your Malchis away from children as well. They get easily annoyed with the company of children or other dogs. If you want to get your own Malchi (Maltese chihuahua mix) puppy, then we advise you to take a peek at your nearest shelter first, as they might have a dog who would greatly benefit from your help. If you want to go to a breeder, Malchi puppies cost around USD 300-USD 1000.

Malchi is one of the breeds of designer dogs.
Malchi belongs to the class Mammalia of animals.
Malchi is a relatively new mixed breed of dog. They were bred by dog designers and expert dog breeders. These dogs have been breeding in the homes of their owners or the breeders. This is why many times, their breeding happens without any monitoring. Hence, keeping track of the population of these dogs in exact numbers is not possible.
Malchi or the Chihuahua-Maltese mix is a new breed of designer dog, so where and when these dogs were first bred is unknown. They are a mix of the chihuahua and the Maltese dog. Even though the history of chihuahua remains uncertain, they originate in Mexico. Later, they became a favorite of the people of Aztec civilization. The American people noticed the breed in the mid-1800s, and since then, they have become quite popular in the country and, later, worldwide. The history of the Maltese tells us the breed was first discovered in Malta centuries ago. Later, they became the go-to dog for every noble house. In the later part of the 1800s, they started to catch the eyes of everyone in America and worldwide. Their offspring, the Malchi, is gaining popularity the same way and living worldwide at the house their owners.
The Malchi has been bred by the breeders to give the dog lovers a unique and new dog breed. The history of the parents, Maltese, and chihuahua take us back centuries ago, and even at that time, both breeds were popular as pets. Both breeds were a favorite of nobles. The chihuahua stayed with the emperor, Montezuma. In recent times, they have been on the silver screen and have become a household name. The Maltese also became so popular that it was considered that a Roman lady was incomplete without a Maltese with her. Like the parents, the Malchi also lives with their owners in households worldwide.
The Malchi breed lives with its owners in households around the world. These Maltese chihuahua mix dogs are affectionate and protective towards the owners and other family members. They don't get along that well with small children or other animals. Early socialization would be needed to correct this behavior with them, but it's better to just keep them in a house where there are no babies, children, or other pets.
Malchi lives for about 12-15 years. The things that threaten their lives are diseases and injuries. They might get injured during exercise or playtime, so always keep an eye out for that. The health problems you would also need to look out for are liver problems, patellar luxation, heart problems, hypoglycemia, ear infections, eye problems, collapsed trachea, or shivering.
These Maltese chihuahua mix dogs are primarily bred by expert breeders, but if you want to breed them at home, then there are a few things you need to test before you take your dog and bitch ahead for the breeding. The first thing will be to see if any of the parents have any disease that they might carry forward to the Malchi puppy. Next, there are a few standards that have been set by the major kennel clubs for both Maltese and Chihuahua. Check if the dog and bitch meet those criteria. The last thing will be to check if any of the parents have any negative personality traits. If they have any negative personality traits which do not match with the natural temperament of the breeds, then the puppy might inherit them from the parents.
Even if the parents pass all these tests, both of them still need to be at least two years of age. The bitch should have already had at least three to four heat cycles. The gestation period for the dogs is usually around 60-63 days. After the gestation period ends, about three to seven puppies are born.
The conservation status of the Malchi is Not Listed under the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List as these are designer dogs. This means their breeding depends on their demand. They are also not facing any grave threat, so we can assume that their population is not threatened at this time.

Malchi is a small-sized dog. The appearance of the Malchi puppy depends a lot upon the parents. Its appearance might be more like the Maltese parent or the Chihuahua parent. Most Malchi's have folded-over ears, but sometimes it might also have tall-erect ears. They have a round head, and the eyes are usually dark brown colored, and long fur hangs over their eyes. The coat length can be both long-haired like the Maltese or short-haired like the short-haired chihuahua. If the coat of your Malchi is on the longer-haired side, maintaining their fur by regular grooming would be quite necessary. The coat is always soft and can be of many colors, like white, tan, black, or cream.
These dogs can be extremely cute with their small size, soft hair, and adorable eyes. They also take the best of both their Maltese parent and their Chihuahua parent. Machi's have a big personalities, protective towards their owners, affectionate, playful, gentle. These traits make the dogs only more charming.
All dogs communicate in two different ways. The first is, they communicate through body language. Some examples are, if your dog is tilting its head to a side, eyes open, and sitting in a straight position, chances are it's curious. If your dog is in a stiff position, ears and tail are erect, eyes alert, then the chances are that it's suspicious of something.
Other than that, dogs also bark. The owner needs to be able to differentiate between various barks to help the dog live a happy life. The Malchi may bark a lot and will talk to you all day, every day. It might even bark in irritation as it can easily get annoyed by children or other animals. Hence, if you want to correct this behavior, early training may be needed.
Malchis or the Chihuahua-Maltese mix usually grow up to be 12-14 in (30.5-35.6 cm) in terms of height. German shepherds are two times larger than Malchis. A German shepherd can grow up to be 24-28 in (61-71.1 cm) in terms of height.
A Maltese can run at a speed of about 5 mph (8 kph). On the other hand, a Chihuahua can run fast when it wants to. It has a speed of 8-21 mph (12.8-33.8 kph). Hence, we can assume that Malchi would also be able to run at a pretty decent speed.
Malchis are small dogs. Their weight is about 5-12 lb (2.3-5.4 kg). Keep an eye on their weight as if they get overweight or underweight that might cause health concerns for your dog.
Males of the species are called dogs, and females are called bitches.
The baby of a dog is called a puppy, so a baby of a Malchi is called a Malchi puppy.
The diet of any dog depends on three different things - the size of the dog, energy level, and age. A dog's diet changes when it enters adulthood from puppyhood and once again when it enters its senior years. When it's a puppy, it should be given food quite a few times in small amounts, and when it grows up, that should change into meals two times divided throughout the day with no more than 12 hours of gap. The Malchis are small-sized dogs that have moderate energy levels, so their exercise requirements are low. The amount of food that you can give to your Malchi should be given, keeping these two factors in mind. You can give them commercial dog food, but it should be high-quality. If you are giving your Malchi tailored food recommended by the vet, ensure that it is proportionally balanced with vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, and good fats.
Malchi has a low drooling tendency, so it is not slobbery, and it has a moderate shedding habit as well. This means that your house or apartment will stay clean.
Not all dogs are ideal for everyone. Malchis don't like to be around children or other animals. They are a kind of dog breed that rather would be perfect for someone living on their own or for older couples. These dogs are good apartment dogs. The trainability for the Maltese and Chihuahua dog breeds are different. The Maltese have an eager to please temperament, which leads to its high trainability, meaning it is easy to train. However, chihuahuas have a stubborn temperament, which leads to its very low trainability. Hence, the trainability of the Malchi is somewhat moderate. Positive reinforcement to train these dogs works wonders. It also has a low energy level, meaning it won't need to play a lot. About 30 minutes of play would be enough. If your Malchi has long hair and a white or cream-colored coat, it might be a bit high maintenance. Grooming three times a week would be enough.
Malchis have separation anxiety. Separation anxiety means where if your Malchi is left alone for too long, it will tend to get uncomfortable and act out. They are like other small dogs like the pocket beagles or Cavalier King Charles spaniels
The Maltese do bark a lot and so do Chihuahuas. Hence, Malchis also tend to bark all the time. You can train your Malchi to correct this behavior.
Malchis shed at a moderate level. They need proper grooming to keep their coat clean. Hence, they are not hypoallergenic.
