Koreanosaurus facts are interesting for informal dinosaur facts.


The Koreanosaurus boseongensis creature of the Koreanosaurus genus is a dinosaur from the Cretaceous period. They belong to the order Ornithischia and have their origin in Korea. Starting with an informal nomenclature by Lee, they were officially termed as Koreanosaurus in the year 2011.

Lee and Huh made proper classification and described them as Ornithopod dinosaurs originating from the Koreanosaurus genus. Although according to the scientist Han et al., it could be a member of the Jeholosauridae clan of order Ornithischia. Based on another article, either the species are a type of Jeholosauridae dinosaur or have the possibility of being related to them.

This animal was herbivorous in nature, and hence the habitat included terrestrial regions along with forests or grasslands. In terms of location, they are only found in the eastern parts of Asia or the southern parts of Korea, giving the creature its name.

According to the 'Neues Jahrbuch Für Geologie und Paläontologie' publication, these species and their genus have their origin from the Korean soil. After several years of discovery, this species was officially named by a group of scientists in 2011.

In 2011, the scientists, namely M.‭ ‬Huh,‭ ‬D.G.‭ ‬Lee,‭ ‬J.K.‭ ‬Kim,‭ ‬J.D.‭ ‬Lim‭ & ‬P.‭ Godefroit named this dinosaur Koreanosaurus based on their place of origin. The pronunciation of this cretaceous species can be broken down into six syllables. The six syllables would be 'Ko-ree-an-o-sore-us'.

What type of dinosaur was a Koreanosaurus?

There has been informal confusion regarding discussing the proper classification of the Koreanosaurus boseongensispecies. According to the authors of the 'Neues Jahrbuch Für Geologie und Paläontologie' journal, like Lee and Huh, this species was considered to be a part of the new basal ornithopod, making it an ornithopod dinosaur.

In which geological period did the Koreanosaurus roam the earth?

Around three Koreanosaurus fossils were identified by scientists in the year 2003 from the Korean Peninsula. Discovered from the southern coastal region of the Korean Peninsula, these species used to live on the planet during the Cretaceous period.

Traces of nests were found where the eggs were the female dinosaur would lay eggs on. The eggs are usually huge by size with a creamish hue. The eggs usually had a hard outing and were laid near the water bodies.

From the fossil that was discovered in Korea and studied by lee, we can say that the Koreanosaurus boseongensis dinosaur was comparatively smaller in size than their contemporaries. This new basal ornithopod dinosaur of the Cretaceous period is almost smaller than half the size of a standing human.

The fossil discloses the ancient reptile having a tail, which is almost two-thirds of the total length of the body and an average length of the neck.

They are known to have rough skin, and not much is known about their set of teeth. There has been no information regarding the dinosaur having a set of a strong or long set of teeth.
