Review Of 'Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets'

Let us know about the story of the film in detail and how it faired among the fans of the franchise.

The first movie in the franchise was a premise to things to come and did well to make people interested in future movies.

'Harry Potter And The Chamber of Secret' takes the adventure in Hogwarts a notch higher with bigger setups, tryst with spiders, and then with a snake.

'Chamber Of Secrets' is darker and scarier than the first movie and that is evident from the first scene itself.

The story is all about humanity, heroism, friendship, personalities, eccentricity, personal history, and everything else. Harry, Ron, and Hermione try to save themselves, their friends, and the school from closure and a monster from coming out into the world from the chamber of secrets.

In the story, Harry returns to school after the holidays with his friends Ron and Hermione.

Soon dreadful events start happening at the school and all three of the friends are found in all the crime scenes.

Secrets of the school start getting noticed and all professors get frightened by events that may lead to the school closing.

Rumors of a chamber of secrets start spreading saying that it holds a creature so ancient that is now trying to kill students of the school like it did a few decades back.

Lots of questions arise; like, is there really a chamber? Can it be opened only by the heir of Salazar Slytherin? is there really a monster and is the monster responsible for petrifying students?

Harry gets a diary belonging to Tom Marvolo Riddle. At first glance, the book seems empty but it does hold secrets of a time when even Dumbledore was significantly younger.

Harry is thought to be the heir who could open the chambers as he is parseltongue.

Eventually, the chamber is found and Harry, Ron, and Hermione follow the path down along with Professor Lockhart.

Ron, Hermione, and the professor had to stop at a point while Harry finds the lair of the monster.

Tom Riddle appears, who is actually Lord Voldemort.

Unscramble the name 'Tom Marvolo Riddle,' and you will find the name stands for 'I am Lord Voldemort.'

Then starts an epic battle of the monster and Harry and if not for Fawkes, Harry would have probably been hurt.

Fawkes not only blinds the monster but also gives Harry the hat. The hat produced Godric Gryffindor's sword used to kill the monster once and for all.

The teeth of the monster help Harry destroy Tom's diary and stop Tom from becoming more powerful. Fawkes then helps everyone get out of the chamber.

The premise is brilliant, the acting is top-notch, and the production is magnificent. Apart from Harry, Ron, and Hermione, watch Lucius Malfoy give the performance of his life.

Remember how the polyjuice potion changed Hermione into a cat? That was one of the best scenes in the movie.

Production Of Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets

All the major cast of the first movie returned for the second installment of the series and added actors like Jason Isaacs, Gemma Jones, and Kenneth Branagh. Unfortunately, this movie was the last appearance of Richard Harris as Professor Dumbledore as he died the same year.

In November 2001, principal photography of the movie began and that was just three days after the release of the first film.

The movie was directed by Chris Columbus and Warner Bros. Pictures produced it.

The cinematographer was Roger Pratt and some of the music used in the film was from John Williams.

The production designer of the film was Stuart Craig and he made sure Dumbledore's office looked as majestic as possible, as he was the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Wizcraft and Wizardry.

The film was a massive success both commercially and critically and earned a whopping $879 million worldwide in theatres.

Harry Potter is among the most popular characters ever in the world of films.

Filming Of Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets

Chris Columbus made a brilliant film with 'Harry Potter And The Chamber of Secret.'

Leavesden Film Studios was used to shoot the film as well as many historic buildings around the United Kingdom.

Even the Isle of Man was used for filming. The filming of the movie concluded in July of 2002.

In the United States, the movie was released on November 15, 2002, as well in the United Kingdom on the same day.

Gloucester Cathedral was used as Hogwarts as well as landmarks like Lacock Abbey, Durham Cathedral, Alnwick Castle, and the Bodleian Library at the University of Oxford.

King's Cross Railway Station was used to turn the platform into platform 9 3/4.

Roger Pratt was the director of photography to make the film more edgy and dark.

Handheld cameras were used for prolific movement.

Fawkes (a phoenix which is actually one of the mythical creatures in the world) was made to look lifelike by using an animatronic phoenix.

It was such a brilliant job done that Richard Harris (who played Albus Dumbledore) thought it was a real bird.

There are many similar facts where actors forgot scripted lines and had to improvise on the spot. This is what made the film such a memorable one.
