Speak Up For Service Day was launched by the Mandan Lions Club in 2014. Since 2003, the Speak Up For Service Project has existed with a public speaking competition initiated by the Fargo Lions Club to honor Laura Christensen Espejo.
Laura committed her life for the betterment of health care facilities to be available to the poor in the Fargo community, as well as Peru, her husband's birth country.
