Nickelodeon, also known as Nick, is an American cable television channel focusing on children's programming.

On December 1, 1977, the channel launched as Pinwheel and aired original cartoons (Nicktoons) globally for 12 hours a day and without any commercials. The channel was relaunched as Nickelodeon in 1979 and included a group of original cartoons and shows on the network.

The channel's frequent usage of the iconic green slime originated in 'You Can't Do That on Television,' a sketch-comedy show released in 1979. Today, ViacomCBS owns the television network and consists of several programs aimed at the 8 to 16 age group. 2004 saw the discontinuation of the Nick on CBS logo, which was a mark of Nickelodeon airing on CBS on Saturday morning.

Today, Nickelodeon is popular among children of all ages because of its unique cast of characters and award-winning shows!

Creator Of Nickelodeon

Know more about the creation of Nickelodeon with these facts:

Dr. Vivian Horner devised Nickelodeon's concept. Horner worked as an educator and directed the research of the PBS series 'The Electric Company.'

She designed the maiden Nickelodeon series, 'Pinwheel.'

'Pinwheel' premiered on December 1, 1977, as a small part of QUBE, a local cable television system in Ohio.

Pinwheel's unexpected success allowed Horner to expand her network idea to create an entire channel over a year later on national television.

The producer of 'Pinwheel' Sandy Kavanaugh proposed the name 'Nickelodeon.'

Joseph Iozzi, a New York-based designer and creative director, designed the first logo of the channel.
