Koyoharu Gotouge is the author and presenter of the Japanese manga 'Demon Slayer'.
It centers on teenage Tanjiro Kamado, who aspires to become a demon hunter following the massacre of his family and the transformation of his younger sister Nezuko into a demon. The plot is set in Taish-era Japan, where the 'Demon Slayer' Corps, a clandestine organization, has been fighting demons covertly for centuries.
The demons are previously humans who Muzan Kibutsuji transformed into demons by infusing them with his own blood. They feed on humans and have superhuman skills including super strength, the kind of power that only demons can have known as Blood Demon Art, regeneration, and super speed.
Demons can only be slain by using weapons made of an alloy called Sun Steel, by injecting them with wisteria flower-derived poison, or by exposing them to sunlight.
While the Demon Slayers are totally human, they use unique breathing methods called Breathing Styles, which give them superhuman power and enhanced resilience. This improves their chances of defeating demons.
Between February 2016 through May 2020, 'Demon Slayer' was published in Shueisha's shonen manga magazine Weekly Shonen Jump, and its episodes were compiled in 23 tankobon volumes.
Between April through September 2019, a Ufotable-produced anime tv series adaption with 26 episodes aired in Japan.
The highest-grossing anime movie as well as Japanese movie of all time, 'Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Mugen Train', was dropped in October 2020.
The anime show has a second season that ran between October 2021 through February 2022, recreating the Mugen Train segment from the movie in seven episodes and handling the Entertainment District segment from the manga in eleven episodes.
