Jim Hawkins Quotes

A book packed with an adventure on the high seas, here is a list of 'Treasure Island' quotes by chapter by Jim Hawkins and also about sailing.

27. "He was plainly blind, for he tapped before him with a stick, and wore a great green shade over his eyes and nose; and he was hunched, as if with age or weakness, and wore a huge old tattered sea cloak with a hood, that made him appear positively deformed.

I never saw in my life a more dreadful-looking figure."

-Jim Hawkins, Chapter III.

28. "His left leg was cut off close by the hip, and under the left shoulder he carried a crutch, which he managed with wonderful dexterity, hopping about upon it like a bird. He was very tall and strong, with a face as big as a ham-plain and pale, but intelligent and smiling."

-Jim Hawkins, Chapter VIII.

29. "From trunk to trunk the creature flitted like a deer, running manlike on two legs, but unlike any man that I had ever seen, stooping almost double as it ran."

-Jim Hawkins, Chapter XXIII.

31. "I was no sooner certain of this than I began to feel sick, faint, and terrified.

The hot blood was running over my back and chest.

The dirk, where it had pinned my shoulder to the mast, seemed to burn like a hot iron; yet it was not so much these real sufferings that distressed me ... it was the horror I had upon my mind of falling from the cross-trees into that still green water beside the body of the coxswain."

-Jim Hawkins, Chapter XXVII.

32. "The bar silver and the arms still lie, for all that I know, where Flint buried them; and certainly they shall lie there for me.

Oxen and wain-ropes would not bring me back again to that accursed island; and the worst dreams that ever I have are when I hear the surf booming about its coasts, or start upright in bed, with the sharp voice of Captain Flint still ringing in my ears: ‘Pieces of eight! pieces of eight!’"

-Jim Hawkins, Chapter XXXIV.

33. "I scarce can say it was by my own volition, and I am sure it was without conscious aim."

-Jim Hawkins, Chapter XXVI.

34. "I no more fear you than I fear a fly. Kill me, if you please, or spare me."

-Jim Hawkins, Chapter XXIX.
