The Buffalo Bills are a professional American football team that competes in the National Football League (NFL). This professional football team is based in the city of Buffalo, New York.

They play their home games at New Era Field, which is located in the suburb of Orchard Park. The team was founded in 1960 as a member of the American Football League (AFL). The average member club seat also costs more than the normal seat, costing around $250 per game.

Buffalo Bills Origins

In this section, we will be talking about the history of the Buffalo Bills.

On October 28, 1959, Buffalo's mayor at the time James D. Griffin announced that he had formed an ownership group which included Wilson and Brandon called "Buffalo Sports Corporation" (BSC) which would seek a franchise in either the AFL or NFL.

A group led by Ralph Wilson Jr. and Russ Brandon purchased an option on an AFL franchise for $25,000 from Harry Wismer that was to be located in Miami, Florida.

Wismer had lost $350,000 when he attempted to launch his own league; however, he still retained ownership of one team which became the New York Titans after moving from New Jersey to Queens in 1962 before relocating again to Hempstead on Long Island two years later where it played for five seasons until 1968.

In mid-September 1961 after the Houston Oilers agreed to move to Dallas, Wilson and Brandon traveled to Texas with a check for $25,000 in hand and the option.

They originally intended to purchase the Los Angeles Chargers from their founder Barron Hilton but when they were rebuffed, decided upon the Bills instead.

Mascot Of Buffalo Bills

In this paragraph, we will be talking about the Masot of Buffalo Bills.

William ‘Billy’ The Buffalo, or as we say Billy the Buffalo is the official name of the NFL’s Buffalo Bills first debuted in 2000.

He is an 8 ft (2.4 m) American buffalo, navy blue in color, and became the team’s full-time mascot in the year 2000.

Its uniform number is ‘BB’. The Billy Buffalo was redesigned in 2018, with its face being less serious and the redesign received mixed reactions from the audience.

Jason Ballock, who wore the costume design from 2006 to 2011, liked the design and said that it was more kid-friendly and streamlined.

Famous Players From The Buffalo Bills

In this section, we will be talking about some famous players of the Buffalo Bills.

DE Bruce Smith played from 1985 to 1999 for Buffalo Bills. Bruce Smith recorded more sacks than any player in the history of football league championships.

In his 15 years with the Bills, he recorded 171 sacks, 941 tactics, and 35 forced fumbles. It is said that he recorded at least ten sacks in 12 years out of 15 years that he spent with the Bills.

What is more impressive is that this entire impact that he made was only from the defensive position in a three-person front, for the royal blue uniform of his NFL team. He was also the leading Bills player in Super Bowl XXVI.

In Simpson's nine seasons with the Buffalo Bills' Professional Team, he averaged 4.8 yards per carry, getting 10,183 yards, scoring 57 touchdowns, and also averaging 90.9 rush yards each game.

QB Jim Kelly led the Bills to a 101-59 regular-season record and hence took the team to the Super Bowl four years. For 35,467 yards, he completed 60.2% of his passes while throwing 237 touchdowns. Jim Kelly also led 22 Fourth-quarter comebacks in his spectacular career.

RB Thurman Thomas spent 12 years with the Bills and averaged 4.2 yards per carry. Thurman Thomas is one of the six running backs in the Football League Championship to score 60 rushing touchdowns and also 20 receiving touchdowns and got his name in the Hall of Fame of Buffalo Bills.

Success Of Buffalo Bills

In this paragraph, we will be talking about the Bills' success as an NFL team.

The Bills have appeared in four Super Bowls, which is the most for any AFL or AFC franchise. They lost all their four appearances.

The Buffalo Bills are one of two NFL teams that play their home games in New York state and the only NFL team that is based in New York.

The other football team from New York state are the New York Giants and Jets; they play their home games at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, which is located within the borders of both states.

The Buffalo Bills have won two AFL championships before joining the NFL as part of the 1970 AFL-NFL merger (The AFL-NFL merger was the merger of two major professional American Football Leagues in the US at that time)

The team also won ten divisional championships, six in the AFL and four in the AFC. They have made 22 playoff appearances since their first appearance in 1960.

The Bills are one of only five teams to win four consecutive conference championships, which they did between 1990 and 1993 under head coach Marv Levy; however, all these titles were won before Super Bowl XXVIII, but they lost that game 20-19 to the New York Giants at Tampa Stadium on January 31, 1993.

The Buffalo Bills have an overall record of 418 wins against 396 losses, which gives them a total score percentage of 0.514%. Their playoff record is 26-25 (.510).

They have been to four Super Bowls but lost all four appearances; the 1982 season’s loss was by far their most lopsided defeat in any game played since joining NFL when they lost 29-27 against Washington Redskins on January 30, 1983, at Rose Bowl Pasadena.

The Bills were one of pro football's dominant teams of the 1960s and were also charter members of AFL.
